kerbed enthusiasm

Probably a ludicrous question but I'm of an age where I'm happy to appear ludicrous in the pursuit of knowledge.

I have a front tyre with a very, very slow leak. It occured to me, as I was inflating it this morning that I don't understand the forces that keep the tyre on the rim. I know that they're glued but presumably that offers very limited adhesion. Air pressure must therefore be a significant factor and consequently low pressure would increase the risk of a tyre slipping and shredding on the rim. Even when tyres are correctly inflated it seems quite incredible that they are capable of bring a ton and a half of car to a standstill within a few seconds without being torn from the wheel.... The worst case scenario on any four wheeled vehicle is to have one tyre with a lower pressure than the one opposite it. It affects the steering and handling of the vehicle and in extreme circumstances makes the vehicle unstable and dangerous. Get it fixed before you live to regret it.

1. i have a 206 sw quicksilver 2004. i want to put an induction kit in it but have read that i shouldnt if i have an airbox sensor.

does anyone know if my model does have one?... Read more

Air box kits may look better but in reality they do not give the performance increase (if any increase) promised by the makers. What they do is make more noise and a noisier car is obviously faster than a quiet car. You also need to inform your insurers of a mod like this, they will class it as a modification and will increase your premium, if you don't and its discovered should you have an accidnet you will find yourself without cover.

My advice is to forget it and save your money.

The nearside window has stopped going down leaving a 5cm gap, the offside works ok and, obviously, the fuse is ok.

The car itself has only covered 50,000 miles and was garaged most of its life so I don't suspect water ingress anywhere near the motor.... Read more

If this is a common rail diesel it could well be a worn HP diesel pump, when its hot the viscosity of the fuel becomes to low to build up sufficient pressure to switch the ECU on. It could be the pressure sensor but in my experience with PSA vehicles its been the pump. You should be able to pick up a secondhand one for not to much money from a srcappers or ebay, I think I paid £55 for mine.

HJ decided to hide the original post on the thread: this seems to have had the effect of hiding all the others too.

This is what HJ posted:...

I parked in a free car park in a place where I was not obstructing and there was no yellow lines ect. I received a 60.00 fine for not parking within a pay. 60.00 seems a lot when they have no loss as there was no payment. It here is no time payment or time limit.
Do I have to pat this excessive fine.

By definition, if all the marked bays in a car park are full, the car park is full, so not available to park in, is it?

If everyone acted as you did, it would not be long before people properly parked in bays would be blocked in by those parking in unauthorised locations. The charge is to make this point. ...

If you have had your car for some time and it is out of warranty then all you can do is plead with VW. It would seem lots of people have been in similar positions with their VW car, not just for the well documented DSG problem, and have had little or no help from VW. There is little likelihood of anyone being able to help you with this problem. If you have bought the car more recently from a dealer then as suggested above your recourse is with the dealer and not VW. You have rights under the Sale of Goods Act to have the vehicle repaired. If the dealer fails to do this then your only option is to take them to court.

It will not be very old if its as stated its a 7 speed.

Hi HJ, my 2008 Ford Fusion 1.4 durashift has a broken heater box, the cable mechanism on the box is seized and I can't get any air to come onto the windscreen or any warm air at all to the footwell. Ford say the whole heater box has to be replaced, a rare and complex job requiring considerable dismantling, maybe 2 or 3 days work. Have you any experience of this task, and any idea what sort of figure I should expect from a main dealer for this work ?? Thanks Read more

Interesting, never seen a problem like this on one of these or similar Fiesta. If there is no heat or distribution, then both flaps are seized. Not too sure how that has happened. If they will not move ,then it is heater box out,but not 2-3 days work.?
