Hello ive got a heavy sounding rattle on the front seems to be drivers side. I have replaced both sides anti roll bar bushes and both sides wishbones. The rattle occurs with any little bump but dissapears when turning in either direction. No excessive wear on the steering but wondering whether it could be steering rack or maybe cross member has anyone got any ideas on whether any of these would cause these problems. Just wondering where to try next. Read more
when turning the steering on full lock there is a noise and what seems to be a loose plate in foot well of the car. the car was purchased in september and has 500 miles on the clock. Brought it back to dealer and they experanced the same as us. THey took a similar car out and it had the same prob and explained that it was safe enough and it was something that was possibly in all new micras Read more
If I was you I would take it back there should be no noise on any position of the steering wheel on a new car you could always get a second opinion from a good mechanic.
After 4500 miles from new, a whining noise gradually developed in my 09 V70 when rpm were over 1500. The power steering pump was changed, and the fliud of couse, and all was well until the noise returned after about 2000miles. The system was fushed and the "hidden" mesh filter in the base of the fluid reservoir (recently brought to light apparently in a volvo service bulletin) was thouroghly cleaned. All has been well for another 1100 miles but ..........the whinig noise has returned!
Any ideas what could be causing this? Perhaps it might be contamination of the fuid due to deteriorating rubber pipes - but would not expect this in a car of this age. Read more

And here is another observation I have of today’s democracy. I have this idea that democracy is becoming the new religion, deity, or invisible friend. Bear with me on this one, and beware there is some generalisation going to be applied because it is a broad subject.
Traditionally religion has been one of the main tools to bind a society. Most countries were predominantly allied to one religion and that over-arching element was a major, if not the major, force that bound it’s people together. Of course there are other factors but religion is probably the most used major factor in the making of a national tribe.... Read more
The USA has a big problem with "independence" groups. They believe in slightly different things and do take arms against the US government. It keeps the FBI and Secret Service busy.
The further south and west you go the more anti government opinions you find. The USA is not all New York and Washington.
I have noticed that my car battery is starting to struggle to deliver a clean strong "start",It is the original battery from new.
I am considering changing it myself and aquiring a new battery from one of the on line battery stores. ( less than half price of well known retailers )... Read more

My only problem is they are so expensive to fix. My power seat motor went out and it was 900 bucks to fix!! I left it.
Maybe true, but check your digital record. My Mazda dealer entered the wrong mileage on my service record and caused a major headache. They struggled to offer the most basic apology and their general customer service is poor (took 2 weeks to respond to a phone query that was diverted to an answer machine). My local independent is streets ahead but the digital service record system effectively prevents me using him Read more
Thanks very much John Boy - really helpful.
If this is the problem that's caused all the grief with the 7-speed dry-clutch DSG, better late than never. If you have such a DSG in your VAG car, or drive a Tiguan, do look at the above link (although I imagine that VAG will be in touch with all those affected).
