Quiite clearly whoever wrote this piece knows nothing about cars. If they did they would know 1.5 million Metros were not produced between 1980 and 1981. Read more
Hi there, Would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

(I do not understand relays)?
Relays are very simple. A relay is a heavy duty switch. That is all. A standard four pin relay will have terminals numbered 30, 85, 86 & 87. Terminals 30 & 87 will be the contacts of the relay, and terminals 85 & 86 will be either side of the relay energising coil....

Help please, the driver side rear side light does not work all other lights function, I have checked the bulb all fine, where should I look for breaks in the wiring and should the fuse be checked if the near side lamp works. the MOT is due on the 15th so need to have this all sorted out ASAP
Thank you for your help Read more
If all the other side/parking lights work ok,then the fuses are ok,as the circuit is fused left and right.Best option on a car this age ,is to run a wire from the left rear light to the right light that does not work.hth
Should there be a close (ish) correlation between emissions (g/km Co2) and MPG? For example, would you expect a 2.0l engine in a mid size car to return a similar mpg as a 1.3l engine in say a Supermini if both had the same emissions e.g. 110g/km? Read more
So cmo, are you saying that diesel fueled cars are far more polluting than petrol or LPG?
I'm saying that a litre of diesel when burn in an engine will prduce more CO2 than a litre of petrol burnt in an engine. If you had 3 identical cars that did identical miles per gallon, but they ran on diesel, LPG and petrol then yes, the LPG car produces less greenhouse gas and the diesel the most.
But the diesel car will typically travel further on a litre of diesel than the petrol car will travel on a litre of petrol. This is why CO2 per kilometer is a way of comparing the vehicles as it takes into account the diesel car will travel further.
I bought a used vehicle from a Mini dealer last year that I thought had runflat tyres. It turns out that there were only 2 and they wern't even on the same axle. I understand that this would be an MOT fail so I'm guessing that the car was sold in an unroadworthy condition. Any thoughts greatfully received. Read more
"Mixing brands and patterns of the same construction type is permissible depending on the vehicle type and manufacturers recommendation. Check your vehicle's handbook for tyre fitment details and options "
So if it says in the vehicles handbook "runflat only "its deeemed unsafe if it does not say then its within the law.
Having been round the block a few times I thought I knew about the different ways of setting up regular payments, mainly Standing Orders and Direct Debits. I had not heard of "recurring VISA payment". This is where the details you give from your VISA card are retained and used to take regular payments from your account. I am embarrassed to say that I had not noticed a payment of £8.59 to FORCES WAR RECORDS MELKSHAM going out each month. Apparently when researching my late father-in-law's RAF record about two years ago I had by default agreed to this monthly arrangement when I thought I was simply making a one-off payment. Another case of not reading the small print. I just wonder how many hundreds if not thousands of others who have been caught out by this little-known process. The arrangement has now ceased after a long draw-out correspondence by email, there is no telephone contact, by the way. I have written to the HO at Melksham requesting a refund. Read more
I'm quite happy about the increasing number of companies that now accept Paypal, no longer entering those credit card details quite so many times.
Fortunately haven't fallen for the repeat VISA con, yet......
This is a topic that was covered on PistonHeads a while back... unfortunately, their userbase totally missed the point (like they always do) and it ended up turning into a bit of a joke, with guys talking about how big their wangs are... a regular occurence on PistonHeads.
So, my question again...... Read more
That sort of thing kills the car off too, especially if it's a common car. There'll always be a spotless example for sale, so nobody buys a gashed one with sellotaped bumpers, so they often get scrapped or carted off to We Buy Any Car because fixing it costs 50% of the entire cars value.
Car - 2002 Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.2 95k miles no mods.
Anyway, had an accident this morning, basically when into a railing on a footpath on the left, so front passenger side of the car pretty mangled up(bodywork and replacement wheel for sure, possible chassis damage I think was said), and the people who helped me at the scene said it's a probable write-off given the car value and damage. However a family friend who took me down to the recovery place said it may not be a write off, and definitely could be repairable.... Read more
I refused and said I would get a "contractor to fix" - Sunday moring 6am - self and friend righted bollard, repacked area around bollard with sand, re-laid slabs - total cost £10 for sand (+ bottle of whisky!)
No Local Authority would permit you to work in a public place in that way. You would need the necessary insurances should someone injure themselves during your work plus you would also need to be on their approved contractor list. You would need to fence off the area whilst you did the work.
