Mini John Cooper Works - Mixed set of tyres - Irishsw6

I bought a used vehicle from a Mini dealer last year that I thought had runflat tyres. It turns out that there were only 2 and they wern't even on the same axle. I understand that this would be an MOT fail so I'm guessing that the car was sold in an unroadworthy condition. Any thoughts greatfully received.

The dealer says that this is not an MOT failure.

Not an MOT failure but if the 4 tyres do not match you may find yourself uninsurred after an accident. That is what Aviva told me when I enquired about my BMW, all 4 tyres must be of the same "type", which type did not matter. Since 4 standard tyres were 1/2 the price of 4 run flats and gave a better ride it was an easy decision.

The dealer says that this is not an MOT failure.

To quote Mandy Rice-Davies, "he would say that, wouldn't he".

There's a lot of pages on the net that explain that you should replace RF with RF due to the wheel bead/rim design being different.

Not looked ito it detail, as I don't have them myself.

"Mixing brands and patterns of the same construction type is permissible depending on the vehicle type and manufacturers recommendation. Check your vehicle's handbook for tyre fitment details and options "

So if it says in the vehicles handbook "runflat only "its deeemed unsafe if it does not say then its within the law.
