Yesterday it came to my attention that the ABS Reluctor Ring on my FWD Vauxhall has 29 teeth. This grates slightly against my engineering background which says 30 are more logical (360 degrees per rotation). Does anybody know why it has 29 teeth and not 30?... Read more

I Googled a bit and found a Rover (400?) that could be either 45 or 43 teeth. To me 2329 or 43 teeth seem as inherently wrong as a V5 engine or a 4 stud five spoke wheel. So why these bizarre numbers?

I am sure a Ford dealer would be able to identify the part from their electronic parts catalogue.

Hello

My car battery died and now my radio is asking for a keycode - it is a 3000 Traffic radio. I brought the car in July 2013 but was never given the code.... Read more

Pressing 1 and 6 does not always display the code. The radio needs to be removed from the dash and there should be a white label on the top with the M number.

My neighbour (nice gent mid seventies) is routinely reinflating his tyres and assures me that it is normal for the Kia Piccanto wheels to loose 2 psi over 24 hours! This does not sound right to me, and I suspect he may have Kerbed the wheels and needs either new wheels or tyres or both. How do I get him to let me read his book to confirm what he genuinely thinks he has read? Or is it True?

Many thanks for any help.... Read more

Maybe he's just a bit fussy bordering on OCD, or maybe he wants a quarter hour peace and quiet from 'er indoors constant nagging.

He's not doing any harm nor hurting anyone else monitoring his tyre pressures, leave him be.

Sorry you asked mileage for cambelt I should have said of course timing is 10 year intervals, whichever's soonest. So it's due.

If you can get your hands on a second hand pump with lowish mileage it will be worth swapping out at same time. They're cheap and plentiful on eBay, sub £80.

I have an old 52 plate Compact that my wife had from new and at the market prices it seemed like a good idea to keep it to supplement my bicycle! Today the alarm went off for no apparent reason but went off with the key press from the front door of the house.

On investigation later most of the dashboard lights were on as were the brake lights and the central locking did not work either.... Read more

All the functions mentioned that were problematic, including the rear wiper, are controlled by the general basic module, which is located behind the glovebox.hth

I am in a very strange situation with a new car I bought. I ordered an automatic Fiat 500 and a month later got a call from the dealer that the car is ready to pick up. Arranged the insurance and asked them to register it which they did. When I went to the dealership and went throught the paperwork and paid the money suddenly they found that the car is manual and I refused to collect it. Got my money back and so on but a week later i got the V5C form for it. So the question is what do i do with this form? I owned the car for 5 minutes and never even touched it but now it looks like i need to transfer it to the dealer? Read more

Send the part of the form to DVLA that says you have disposed of the car to a dealer. Give the dealer the rest of the V5.

Keep copies of everything....

I want to buy a full size spare wheel. Standard wheels are 205/60/16

Would a 205/55/16 alloy be suitable?... Read more

gordonbennet

Offset can vary with wheel width, there will no doubt be several wheel choices for your car as there are for most, with varying width wheels (even if the same diameter) to accomodate the several differing sizes.
