My car has done less than 99,000 miles and drives beautifully. BUT when starting from COLD there is quite a loud rattle from the top of the engine which lasts for a second or two at the most, and then vanishes. There is no problem when starting the engine hot, only when cold. It has been suggested this may be worn variable valve timing units. Do you have any experience of this problem, and what may be the cure. Read more

Having work done on your car shouldn't have any effect on what the radio code is. Are you quite sure that you have entered it correctly? Where did you get the radio code from? If it's written in the handbook someone could-well have fitted a different radio at some time.

Failing that, you will need the serial number that's printed on a label which will be either on the top or the side of the radio. Probably starts with "M" followed by a six digit number. Radio needs to be pulled out from the dashboard sufficiently to read this label. You don't need to disconnect it, just pull it out far enough to see what the serial number is....

Bought a filter for my Scenic 1, 1.9 DCi from a reputable E.Bay seller, and he has supplied me with a Crosland filter 501745388, which according to the Crosland site is the correct filter for my car.

However, the current filter is a Misfat Z692, which is half the diameter of the Crosland one.

Now I'm convinced that they have sent me the wrong filter for the 2nd time, and I'm not a happy bunny, despite the Crosland site saying it is the correct filter. (Google both and you'll see what I mean.)

Oil filters from different manufacturers can be different shapes and sizes even though they are for the same application. The important parts are the thread and the sealing ring, if they are the same then the filter should fit.

The Mazda 2 is a sound choice as it's almost as reliable as the Jazz, but cheaper to buy and will probably cost the same to insure and fuel. The Swift would have been a sportier choice, but the older shape ones with the 1.3 engine tend to be thrashy at speed and not very economical, the 2010 on models are far better.

I think you need to know more, Are the garage saying there is no compression(or insufficient) in cylinder 3?

While a misfire is often the lack of a spark, It can also be the lack of compression or lack of fuel (injector or wiring fault)....

As per the subject, Im looking for a used car and would like some knowledge from people who know more than myself!!!

Currently drive a mondeo 54 plate automatic diesel - I like automatics and would be happy with another, however I also like good MPG (doesnt everyone!) and understand that those things dont mix... But whatever happens, I wont buy a small car such as a C1 etc!!... Read more

Under 10k petrol is considered best by most people. At your mileage you could have a larger car and enjoy it.
