Its time to replace our current cars, we have a 2006 VW Gold R32 and a 2006 Toyota Aygo, we can probably get away with just one car but are struggeling to find some information thats crucial to our decision.

We frequently (at least once a week) make a round trip of 600 miles and we want a car which can easily do 600 miles on a single tank of fuel.... Read more

"....look at the new Skoda Octavia. Similar specced cars are about the same price but no PCP offer...."

Skoda have a 0% PCP offer gong at the moment (and I have taken adsvantage of it). I agree with people above - either a Leon or Octavia (depending on how much room you need) with the 2.0 150 bhp diesel engine should tick most of your boxes. Both are cheaper than the comparable Golf. The Ford Focus is a good car too, as is the C-Max if you snd your relatives would prefer a higher seating position....

Forget fuses---- Take the relay out (unplug it), give it a shake and plug it back in. Then, as you turn the headlights on, get someone to bang the relay with a screwdriver handle. That should make it operate or stop operating altogether! Anyway, seems like you need a new relay. There should be a sticker on the relay panel to help you identify which one it is. At that age, the relay contacts could well be spiked.

My car runs original 205/55/16 summer tyres on original alloys. I want to put on a set of winter tyres and have been offered a set of 15" steel rims that supposedly came off a scrap zafira. Will these rims fit my car? I have my doubts because I've measured the gap between my brake calipers and the original alloys and it is about 8 mm. Surely smaller diameter steel rims are going to foul the brakes? Read more

And thanks for the update.

Only one thing to watch, do the wheels come with new bolts/nuts, i only ask as on some cars the bolts are completely different and have different seats as well as lengths...if too long then the fronts don't usually cause problems but the rears can if you have drum parking brake.

I am in the market for a new car and comparing the Citroen C4 Picasso diesels (recently released) and the Peugeot 5008. I am surprised by the differences in VED cost - it seems the C4 Picasso has changed engines and got down to Band B in some examples yet the 5008 diesels are much higher. This suggests the 5008 may be revised soon - has anyone any 'inside information' please? Read more

I have had this car since new in March 2012 and it now has about 16,000 miles on the clock. Over the last few months (possibly since the last service?) it has developed an intermittent knocking noise coming from the rear nearside wheel area. It occurs on most journeys to a lesser or greater extent and I cannot pin down whether it is affected by air temperature, speed, type of road surface etc. The dealership have agreed to look at it as the car is under warranty, but has said they will charge if it is due to damage. I guess in today's potholed world, that is to be expected. However has anyone else experienced anything similar or can advise as to what the noise might be due to? Many thanks Read more

Many thanks all. I have checked the seatbelt strap as that has rattled previously and it is definitely not that, but will check the other straps as also suggested. Once I get to the bottom of the noise, I will post the cause/remedial action - presuming I do, of course! Many thanks

I have just bought a new LR F2 and amended my existing insurance (Zurich per RAC) for the new car. LR Insurance have contacted me to warn me that if I insure with other insurers than their own (Zenith), I risk having repairs (in case of an insurable accident) which could invalidate my warranty. How likely is this do you think? The LR insurance is £100 more which I would be prepared to pay if necessary but wonder if it isn't a bit of a scare tactic. Read more

I can understand Landrovers point here. Alot of "Insurance approved" body repairers are not very good and the term "Insurance approved" is a deceiving way of saying "Cheap and cheerful" which is why I've taken at least 2 of them to the small claims court to claim money from them to get the cars repaired to how they should be and not lashed up on the cheap. One of them was even claiming for parts he had not bought - a new bumper and a light cluster.

I'd never use an "Insurance approved" repairer again.
