hi, does any body know what a whoomp noise (like a vacume pump ) when i turn left or right , when car is stationary, also when the car has been run for a while and you restart it the rpms go up and down , and the vacume noise goes in and out with it ?, there does not seem to be loss of power steering fluids, and no other problems with driving,.. any ideas would be grateful. thanks.. the car is a 51 plate 2.0 litre ghia, this problem only seems to have started since i had a clutch and flywheel change.? thanks , but have checked hoses, all appear ok, have now been told that it has a timing chain rattle, and i might as well scrap it as the cost of removing the engine to replace the timing chain , is just not worth it ?.nobody really seems to know what the vacume noise is ,or whats causing it ?. i am not sure what to do now , as i need the car , but cant afford the cost of replacing timing chain , or replacing the engine for another one , have been quoted £370 for a engine from spares yard , but they only supply , not fit .. any help would be very usefull , .thanks..

.... but some years ago when I suggested on the forum that the technology existed to make it inevitable that this would happen one day I was universally either ridiculed or slagged off. It's only a proposal but you know how these things go:

If you vote for a pro EU party, in other words either of the lib lab con one party with three heads anti British parties then you vote for more of the same.

If you actually look at voting figures and election turnouts, you'll see fewer and fewer of us are voting for the LibLabCon and fewer people are signing up as members of the parties....

Hello folks. I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me out with 2 headlight clips for my C5. I've tried loads of breakers but the ones who have them only sell the full headlamp! I'm not looking for them for nothing so if you can help me that would save me from going mental trying to keep a bulb from moving!Cheers Read more

Just trying to change spark plugs on 2010 petrol.

Removed engine cover and saw new style with coil pack on each port. Undone the screw and unclipped connector. Are the coils attached to the bottom of the rubber shroud because as I tried to remove the rubber shroud, the coil pack came away with the coil. So I have a pack with a dangling piece of wire and a rubber shroud in the port. I then managed to get this out to reveal the spark plug. Read more

I have an Audi A3 2.0 TDi 140 (2005)

I have a 2004 2L TDi and have noted black smoke for some years, 12 months ago it only just got thro' its MOT on smoke. I now run it on Shell V-Power fuel and gave it shart sharp run before the recent MOT and it passed by a wide margin.

There's a lot of unsubstantiated claims made about premium fuel - but it does seem to produce less smoke.

Hi All,

Thought I'd ask for some advice on a car for my better half. She currently has a 2001 Focus 1.8TDDi, which is getting long in the tooth… we're now looking for a replacement. She's going to use it for a daily 30 mile commute (round trip), most of which is in city traffic. 'Occasional' trips to the shops too. She currently puts about 8000 miles per year on her current car. We've got a toddler and hopefully one on the way, so we're thinking with practicality, safety and running costs in mind. Kit/gadgetry's not really a consideration. 5 doors is a must, too. We're looking to hang on to whatever we choose for a while to come (we've had the current car for nearly 8 years).... Read more

The Nissan Note is an excellent car that is very good at transporting a young and growing family. As they have stopped making the current model (a replacement is due soon) there will be some good deals around. They will be no less safe than a Focus of similar age.
