I live in North Yorkshire and recently received a letter from North Yorkshire Police advising me of the fact that a large number of Defenders were being stolen, these theft's were done to fill order's from foreign countries with very poor roads. One defender owner in the village where I live only knew his car had been marked when the Ferry company at Holyhead rang them to ask if they would like to re-arrange the ferry crossing as they had not turned up for the one the vehicle was booked on. By luck they were having a family gathering and the Defender was parked up behind 4-5 other cars that night. Think again about the list ?. Read more

Hi,

I currently own a 04 plate Ford Focus 1.8 Zeetec. I am looking to upgrade, and it will be the family car. I like the 1.8 engine, as i usually do a 5 mile journey to Leeds city centre and back, and it offers good acceleration at the busy roundabouts etc, but i also on a weekend often go up to A1 and M62 and its excellent crusing as well, including the trips on B roads in North Wales.... A Focus is relatively large, if it's just for two ('me, myself and child').

A Fiesta size would allow a smaller engine, lower fuel costs, and lower purchase cost too....

My 17 year old who has passed his test is like every 17 year old in wanting his first car, he's done really good in saving £2000 for car and £2000 for insurance working evenings as hes at college doing his A levels. He has seen a Citreon C2 1.1sx which looks nice 2005 plate 64000 miles, but i know nothing about cars as i am at the stage where i can but new or nearly new with 2 years warranty left and have free servicing in the deal. So we need to have a look at it with regards to buying it for him but what do i look at ? do you get warranty with a 6-7 year old car from a small dealer is there any pitfalls i can avoid as i will feel bad if we buy it and its a dud.

I have a recon engine by a fer member, the crankshaft has failed and the engineer also a fer member has stated a manufacturing fault, i have spoken to the rebuild company and they have washed their hands of it. As far as i'm concerned this falls under the sales of goods act , as the shaft was not fit for purpose/ i'm the unlucky 1 in 1000 its happened to. their is no other contributer to the failer but with the fer member dening any responsibility for the supplied new crankshaft i have costs running into 1000s what should i do. Hi,

Recently when driving on the bypass, national speed limit, my car started juddering and I experienced loss of power. I pulled over and turned the Car off, waited ten minutes and the car was fine,

Today on the motorway, my car started shaking again but much worse than last time. The EPC light came on, ESP went off.. Had to coast to the hard shoulder... Waited ten minutes and drove between 50-60 and exited motorway and came home on the town roads.

I know nothing about cars and just wondered if anyone had any ideas of what it may be. I know that it's best to get it looked by a mechanic but am just doing some research in the mean time.

Any contributions appreciated Read more

I had this problem with mine. It is a common fsi problem which featured in the June07 issue of Audi Driver magazine. The problem occurs at motorway speed under high gear at 3-4000 rpm when full throttle is applied. The full cure was supposed to be to replace the entire fuel pump/regulator, I had this & other things done but the problem still recurred. It has put me right off VW as I thought such a common problem should have resulted in a recall. Good luck.
VW phased out the engine pretty quickly.

I have a VW Bora that keeps cutting out, normally when I am leaving a roundabout or going around corners leaving me without steering and brakes. When this happens the ESP light comes on first followed by the engine management light. No codes are raised. I cannot jump start the car and have to turn the ignition off and then restart the car. It starts first time leading me to believe that it is not fuel related.

I have had it in a number of garages and they cannot find the fault this includes the main dealer who had it for two days.... Read more

You don't say which engine it is.

For what its worth my OH's Audi A3 1.6 (similar to Bora engine) started doing exactly the same thing, the ESP and engine management lights were also intermittant, although not always showing when it cut out....

I'm driving an 04 auto Toyota Corolla but find it hard on petrol and really prefer the control you get with a manual, with that in mind I'm looking for a solid, safe, economical family hatch, have peanuts to spend. I've been told mine is worth £2000 p/x so could add about £500 / £1000 to that.

You'd get a 5-7 year old Berlingo or Partner for that money. No cachet at all but a brilliant family car.

The best are diesels. More recent ones, 06 and post, use the HDi engine. Should get you over 40 to gallon and provided it's properly maintained good for at least 200k miles. The 75hp version's performance (or that of the pre 06 1.9D) is best described as stately but the HDi 90 is nippy enough. Kids love the rear space and sliding doors, three full rear seats and a flat floor plus loads of stowage for their stuff....

1998 VW Polo 1.4. Scumbags nicked my wing mirror. Not the whole thing, just the glass. Guess someone did the same to them and they wanted a free replacement.

The wing is now exposed, there's a kind of circular mounting plate and a couple of wires hanging off.... Read more
