I have a BMW320DM 2006 plate, it has recently been diagnosed with a snapped crankshaft - do i have recourse to BMW as it must be a manufacturing fault a crankshaft should be fit for purpose for more than 61k miles - BMW have kindly offered to strip down my engine to asses the problem at £185 per hour and may or may not apply some good will to the project. - Do i have any recourse for BMW to pay the whole bill? It must be a manufacturinfg fault!...

In April, bought a used new model aveo from a dealer for my old mate good price, 800 miles on clock few months old, so balance of 5 year warranty... After couple of weeks steering became very stiff, on advice from Mark Cox at chevrolet car taken into Evans Halshaw in St Albans, who thoroughly checked but found no fault. Car now has steering very stiff, returned to them, (Probably electrical fault sir) but requires investigation. Chevrolet say no known issues with these cars for this fault.

Vw caddy maxi 2.0 tdi 140bhp 2009
68000 miles bmm engine code
it broke the crankshaft & cracked the
block for no reason - serviced right not low
On oil so don't know why.
Looked all over for a bmm engine
Which I could not find. So on advice
From vw ireland and car dismantlers
Was told that a bkd should fit in place.

However received bkd engine yesterday
Which is really clean and good looking
Engine. But turbo and Manifold are in totally
Different positions and some point the wrong
Way.
Would it work if we tried to pipe these to make fit
are or we just going to hit block Wall regards to
ecu etc etc.
I am told that the bottom half is the
Same on both but this is also not 100
And if I take apart a good engine and does not
Match can't send back.

What should I do any advise would be great.

I would love to put the bkd engine into
It but my mechanic thinks this is almost
Impossible ( but others who are not doing
The job said it will work and would do however
Van is in garage taken apart )
What I have read here is the bkd is good
And the bmm is bad.
I don't want to spend loads of money
On it and then have more crap after.

What you think. Read more

I have exactly the same van, 2008 77k and my camshaft has just snapped!

I have quotes for a remanufactured BMM engine for £2800+Vat

How are you getting along with it?

I was advised by our mechanic not to try any other parts/engines as parts rarely match up.

If you do a google search for 'vw snapped crankshaft' it would seem this is a very common problem on PD140 engines about this mileage.

I took delivery of a new car in May and the dealer said he would send off to register it that same day. When the V5 arrived this week it showed that car had indeed been first registered that day...but to the dealer, not me. Three weeks later it was then registered to me. So not only am I now the 2nd owner of my 'new' car but also, according to Sect 43c of the Vehicle Excise & Reg Act '94, I appear to have committed a criminal offence as the car was not registered to me. It also seems my insurance may have been invalid during that period as I declared that I was the first registered owner when taking out the policy.

The dealer is making very little of this, insisting this is common practice and that there is no harm or loss of value to me. Does anyone have an informed view? Read more

I had the same happen to me. I insisted that the dealer contact DVLA and explain that they had made a mistake, giving false information to the DVLA is an offence.

The dealer did so and DVLA issued a new V5 showing me as the first, and only, registered owner....

Only one of these I've had was the Accord, petrol, not diesel though. Great car felt as good at 60k miles as when new.

Personal choice of those on the list would be the Volvo, especially in red. It was my other possible to the DS5 that I ultimately went for.

That's great, if you can afford it.

In the long run it is cheaper as with fewer visits to the tyre depot you will have wasted less time and mileage. ...
