A £25 air mass meter? ,you might as well fit a toilet roll tube, which costs zero.

The speedo keeps failing to register the mph, off then on etc. I have been told that my car needs a new sensor Ford part 9E731.

Is this part a DIY job or should it be done in a garage. Is it dangerous to drive with this fault? Read more

These can be an absolute pig to remove,as you have found out.The best solution is to try and break out the sensor with pliers and possibly very careful drilling,as it is all plastic.Try not to leave any bits in the gearbox,Fortunately, the sensor is electronic ,so no moving parts. The pin is stainless, but if it is seized in the gearbox housing, then i can only see it coming out once the sensor is removed. The pas fault is totally unrelated on this model,as it is all mechanical/hydraulic.Check the fliud level

We have a Ceed SW 1.6 CRDi, had it nearly 3 years excellent car. 51 mpg overall, reliable, comfortable and very well equipped.Only one problem, the A/C condenser spung a leak, replaced under warranty.

Before we bought the Ceed we had a good look and a couple of drives in the Octavia Estate. Nice as it was it just did not do it for us as well as the Ceed. Firstly the diesel engines, the 1.6 was totally useless and the 2.0 was over budget. The seating position was very low compared to our old C-Max wheras the Ceed is nice and easy to get into. The Skoda was pretty spa***ly equipped even in SE form. Only 2 airbags as standard, no parking sensors, no privacy glass etc. Add on all these bits and it got even more expensive. Nice radio in the Octavia. The Ceed "3" we bought has everything you could possibly want....

What happened to the new Nissan X-Trai? Read more

almera1.4GX

I recently bought a low mileage '98 Nissan Almera - 1.4 Petrol, manual with 75,000 miles.

I was told that the oil needs to be changed (trade car) but I didn't change it for about 1,000 miles and it drove perfect. I then changed the oil & filter, the old oil looked extremely dirty as if it wasn't chaged for 30 thousand miles or more. I bought Castrol oil for this and after the change a loud rattle occured from start up.... Read more

So after all my questions here and all the help - you guys solved it.

The new Nissan oil filter was the cause of the problem, their is a slight noise on start up but I think that's perfectly normal. It's running great which is a great relief....

1.9 PD engine has good reputation if serviced correctly and correct oil used. It should have a cambelt soon-ish plush precautionary water pump change- if not already done at 40K. Check rear tyres for unusual wear on inners, can lead to lots of noise. Check all the electrics, central locking, etc and air con as VAG electrics can be erratic as they age. Check right through car for water leaks and damp carpets, VAGs still leak after all these years. Can't think of much else apart from test drive and usual stuff.
