If its a drive shaft I can't see why it should only do it in one gear. If the CV joints are worn it will make a clicking noise when driven on full lock. It could be an engine/gearbox mounting.

and applying the same logic, why would the gearbox mounting cause the noise in one gear ?????...

Possibly that Borg & Beck design where the slave cylinder is integrated with the release bearing (like a sort of telescopic doughnut). Plus side, self adjusts and there's no actuator fork / linkage gubbins. Minus side, a b*tch to replace.....

You sure you didn't pour oil down the drain channel?

If the feed really is blocked you might be able to free it up with compressed air....

Hi

In a bit of dilemma. Got a late 2007 325i Touring with the N53 direct injection engine in 2010 as an approved used BMW and have extended the warranty twice so still covered. I like the car a lot to drive and does everything I need. Dont do a lot of miles so the MPG not critical. ... Read more

The Bestival coach that crashed last year had a 19.5 year old tyre on one of the wheels, which failed, causing the crash. How on Earth do you get away with using tyres that old?!!! Read more

the age stamp on car tyres is not coded .. it's fairly easy to read and understand ... when I bought my winter tyres in 2010 they showed xx09 in the date field - indicating week xx in year 09 (cannot remember the week in question)

Before shelling out £££ to the main dealer, i'd be inclined to nip round to a good Diesel workshops (ask good OD taxi drivers unless you know of one) , they might well remove this troublesome item and clean it out properly instead of throwing new parts at it.

I know lots of owners on the BMW forum clean theirs out, it might be worth a search on PSA forums for cars with the same engine for full instructions if you fancied DIYing.
