Despite what it say in the owners handbook the dealer and Toyota insist that the tail light indicator lght was phased out on this edition of the Auris and the driver should instead rely on the audible warning lgiven when you exit the vehicle. This seems extraordinary to me as the stork also includes the turn indicator which is in constant use, which means that the lights can be accidentially turned on at any time. When this happens the following drivers can get very agitated while you are oblivious to the problem. Is the dealer correct or did Toyota have a few old instrument clusters to use up at the end of the production run Read more
Right put a new engine in my corsa c 2001 reg 1.0, when I've gone to start it its trying but not starting, I've not changed the ecu kept that from old engine, if I pour petrol into the carb (not sure that's correct wording) it starts then juders runs out of petrol, took it to the garage for diagnostics they say coming back with injector fault so took my old injectors out other engine and put them in still no joy, garage said could be ecu! Any ideas? I'm getting desperate! Read more
Am I being unreasonable ? My 4 yr old Insight went into "limp mode" - Diagnosis- swarf in the CVT gearbox blocking the engine speed sensor causing the "limp mode". Solution? a new transmission at a total cost of £10,000 (more than I paid for the car 16 months ago!).
After much negotiation, Honda UK reduced the gearbox price to £2200, which adding the £900 labour costs, still leaves me a bill of over £3000.... Read more
How can Honda claim this is anything other than a manufacturing defect?
With an automatic/CVT box the potential to 'abuse' the gearbox is next to none, not like a manual!
I purchased a Jeep Patriot from a well known car supermarket in 2011, since I have had the car it has been in and out of the Jeep garage more times than I can count on one hand for various problems. The issue I have at present is to do with the gearbox, bearing in mind this Jeep has been in for gearbox problems (that a technitian picked up whilest in for a diffrent fault) at least four times previous, each time the gearbox has been stripped down and built back up. I have been assured by an independant garage that the problem is the third gear synchromesh, this was relayed to Jeep customer relations and we were told that as the car is out of warranty we will be liable to pick up the bill. We have opend a complaint as it seems just totally wrong for your tires to outlast a gearbox, and in particular as it has only just done 32k miles. I received a phone call yesterday from the Jeep dealership who have spoken to Jeep themselves, they said that it needs a new box since the amount of times it's been opened up will have caused swarf to enter it, and they don't want to risk opening it up to repair it, The total cost for this is £3,900 and Jeep have said they will pay £1,900 as "a goodwill gesture" I'm afraid I feel they should be picking up the whole bill as it is down to the gearbox being faulty from the start.
Please has anyone any advice they can give me as to what to do next, needless to say it will not be getting fixed at that price, and I will be continuing motoring without the use of third gear as long as possible. Read more

I think they must have forgotten what it was like in the 70s 80s and 1990s when the Japanese car makers sold cars much more efficiently than they do now - no spendy tv ads, no big colour spreads in magazines etc - just the odd local paper advert and let customers spread the word and make sure 80% of customers repeat purchase....then just count the cash and take to the bank...simples.
I would have to disagree on that. My first new car was a Honda Civic and I bought a number of new Hondas in the next 10 years. However it was not that easy as they were subject to tight import quotas in those days and it could be difficult to source a new vehicle without a considerable wait. Basically they could easily sell all that they were allowed to import so there was not a lot of point in mass advertising.
They set up the Swindon operation to circumvent these quotas and obviously, now that the restrictions are gone, they have to advertsie as much as any of the other manufacturers.
Hey guys im new to this site. I have a 406 HDI 2000 model (90hp) which has lost all power up until a week ago the car was going find and then all of a sudden one day its just lost everything its so flat you could almost walk faster. i have checked all the obvious things replaced fuel filters etc. I did have the ecu codes read and it was showing MAF sensor short so we cleared the code but still no power. There is no checklight on the dash. i decided to clean the maf sensor but again still no change. I then removed the plug from the maf sensor and decided to take it up the road and bingo all the power came back. Now im not sure if this means there is a fault with the maf sensor no checklight came up on the dash even with the plug disconected which i thought was weird. The car has done 154 miles never burns a drop of oil but i have noticed fuel economy lately hasnt been as good as it use to be. Can anyone out there help me out on this or has anyone had a similar problem? I did read there is a MAF sensor earth modification that should be done aswell can anyone help me out

The most likely problem will be the sensor, that could also account for your poor fuel economy. Try a secondhand one from a scrap yard.
My honda FRV broke down whilst driving on the motorway. it was on cruise control and all of sudden began revving on its own and smoke was coming out og exhaust. we pulled over and switched off the engine. the car revved again fiercly, while switched off and a blinding amount of smoke came out.

but who told you that there is no compression .there is a lot of work to test the compression on a diesel engine ,i dont think honda would have done that ,if they know the turbo had blown .they would want to put a new engine in it ,ray .

If this was in a retail outlet your first line of attack should be to the manager of the store. Remind them of their obligations under the Equalities Act, including the sanctions for not adhering to it and then get them to get UKPC to cancel the invoice.
Pepipoo has a poster called schoolrunmum and she has been very succesful at using this tactic.
This is worth a read.

Hi,
The car started mifiring on a short journey back from dropping dd at nursery this morning.
Car perfect when going around last night. Can sit at a steady rev in neutral no issues. Hasnt dropped any water, reserve in same place. Cant see any wires or caps off under angine.
Only around £5 in the tank as light has just come on.
Wondering if this is anything to do with continual hot weather? Petrol likely to evaporate? Air filter cant breathe etc?
Its used a couple of times a week ( flawless ) as have a bike. Prob hasnt had the air filter or plugs changed ( due to little use ) for anywhere up to 2.5 years now.
Engine ussually quite responsive. The only thing I noticed yesterday ( no misfire ) was that it wasnt very responsive when I put me foot down hard yesterday from 15mph. Ussually more responsive.
Someone mention Mass airflow sensor or MAP - Unsure which I have? Or a hose to it?... Read more
