Dear honest john .

My car is in a workshop and they have told me the oil from this is not the turbo but a pressure relive valve Vauxhall are saying the cause of the oil leak is not the turbo .... Read more

"what is a pressure relive valve" Every car has one it is a relief valve that regulates the maximum pressure of the oil. Why would Vauxall identify a simple seal on the pressure relief valve if they could have charged you for a replacment turbo. Regards Peter

I've tried ringing a few Vauxhall dealers - to find out if my car has a Dual Mass Flywheel. Not one of them could tell me!

The reason I am asking is: mine has 90k on the clock and I'm wondering if I shall soon be facing big bills.... Read more

Your car, the 1.8 has a solid flywheel.

only the 2.0T, the 2.2 and the diesels have a DMF

I'm looking for a good value, reliable and solid family estate. With a budget of around £5-6k, and annual mileage of around 8,000 miles, I don't know whether or not to go for:

As you mentioned a family car, how about an s-max? 2.5T petrol is around that price at around 90k miles. Huge, nice to drive, very quick for a car of its size and makes a lovely noise when you give it some welly.

Fuel consumption is not horrendous (get about 28mpg on mine, mix of central london and motorway driving) and you have a lot of space and practicality. The boot is enormous and the rear seats slide to give more or less boot/leg room. ...

Right guys
Like earlier comments state, DSG really can't be that problematic. I want to be proven wrong and all comments are welcome. One 'problem' I'm reading everywhere is the delay when pulling away, stop/starting. I'm not putting dsg owners down but isn't this made clear by VW? It's to do with the brake lights being linked to the dsg in some way for selecting gears? Also, is there some sense in reverse and second gear being on the same shaft and when coming to a stop if the car is not brought to stationary stop rather than coast the dsg is confused I.e will the driver slow down or will he/she want to reverse???
As for the mechatronic unit, well, the car must be purchased with a decent warranty that covers this. Therefore only vw will cover this based on my experience with flappy paddle semi autos.

I was going to ask this on one of the current DSG never ending saga threads but i would really like to know why hence this thread.

I've only ever owned one VW group car, a facelift Diesel Golf Mk1, it was OK but nothing to write home about.... Read more

If we're talking about Customer Service, I have to say VWs is one of the best. I cannot fault them at all.

When I rang them with regards to my current car, it being an approved used 'Das Welt Auto' car they're treating me really well indeed. They're treating me like a valued customer too despite this being my first VW but are classing the 3 Skodas as keeping me in the VAG brand....

It seems the issues with VW 7-spd DSG box, DQ200 variant, are growing.

Having issued a massive 400,000 unit recall in China, and blaming the fault on local Chinese suppliers, VAG have now issued a recall for Aus and NZ.... Read more

Is the VAG DSG 7 speed gearbox the same as the Porsche PDK. Just that Porsche has always been involved with VAG and the PDK is a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox.

We have been having on going intermittant issues with our air conditioning. Sometimes it works fine and blows out cold air when turned down low. Often though it will be blowing ice cold air on two of the vents on one side of the car and warmer air through the other two vents. the sides do sometimes swap around as well. when the temp is turned up it will blow hot air one side and cooler air on the other. the actual pressure of the air is less on the side that is not working properly as well.

Our local ford dealer has had the car in many times during the last two years ( the issue occured whilst still under warranty) and have replaced pretty much the entire air con system, compressor, vents, control panel etc. They now seem stumped as to what could be causing it. As the air con does work at certain times we think the actual system must be ok as it will blow out air around 6 degrees C. Does anyone have any ideas of what would cause this fault?... Read more

Yes,very common failure on the old v6 omega models, and a pit of a pig to change. On the vectra,I think you will find it at the front of the engine, near the oil filter.hth

I own a 307 1.4 16v petrol, on a 54 plate and am currently having problems, when driving the car will work for a few short trips then will start to play up. It loses power, and feels as though its going to stall, it has had the coil pack changed, two fuel injectors changed, two exhaust valves changed, spark plugs changed, injector harness changed and we are getting nowhere the fault is still there! The display will come up with anti pollution fault and catalytic converter fault, guzzles fuel and the engine management light flashes. It has been to peugeot for a diagnostic test and they came up with the fact that there was a fault on cylinder 2 which has been changed however this did not correct the problem. We are now running out of options and have spent over £700 in the last 3 months and just want the car sorted now! Can anyone offer any advice please?

Thanks in advance

There is a saying amongst electricians:
"if you haven't found the fault, then you haven't done enough testing!"

Diagnosis by guesswork and parts substitution is rarely effective and often expensive because the wrong parts are usually being changed. As a Warranty Engineer with a Midlands manufacturer I used to see a lot of that from dealers. This strikes me as a classic case. The dealers incompetence is costing you dear.
