Hi, could someone tell me if the many problems that the old Focus 1.6 diesel seems to suffer from ie. turbo failure and injector leaks still apply to the new shape one 2010 onwards. Is it the same engine or have Ford solved these problems. Thanks for any information given as i am thinking of buying one of these and don't really want to be paying out for expensive repairs. sparky100. Read more

It also helps to park the car facing uphill and bring the revs up, Open the bleed nipple and any air out and close the nipple before letting the revs drop. Successful bleeding can take several attempts-don't underestimate the amount of air in there!

My daughter bought a used Peugeot 207 6 weeks ago from an independent (well respected) local dealer. It's an 07 plate with 65,000 miles and was sold with a 3 month dealer warranty.

She noticed a noise from the clutch today and took the car to a Peugeot dealer to look at. The diagnosis is that the thrust bearing is failing and should be replaced - with the whole clutch needing to be replaced at the same time. She has contacted the selling garage who says that replacing the bearing may be covered by the warranty, but the whole clutch certainly won't be.... Read more

That's a great result ,it's very unusual for a finance company to get involved in the way you describe ,well done .

As a current topic shows, there's quite a lot of confusion about the names used by different manufacturers. It's an area which interests me and I've been trying to list them all. Here it is. I'd appreciate any suggestions which will help me to get the list right.

Petrol-electric or diesel-electric can be more efficient when combined with regenerative braking and energy storage - i.e. battery.

The battery is a middleman-like all middlemen, he always takes a cut. Sometimes he earns his cut, but you want to cut him out of the equationwhere possible. Hybrid is more an alternative means of propulsion than transmission. The regenerative braking capability is a no-brainer because electric motors are usually fully reversible as generators. The contribution to economy isn't as significant as it might seem and isn't the raison d'etre of hybrid, but it is a feature that's easy understood by the public.

Take it back from where you bought it ,it could be a faulty sensor but more likely to be something much more expensive,

ONS has released casualty statistics for 2012 www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23083117 - overall road deaths are down 8% but cyclist deaths are up 10%.

Surely it's time to segregate cyclists from motorised traffic - for their own safety ? Read more

I suppose (given Le Tour is almost a religious experience in France [despite no Frenchman winning in recent years]) that the Trench's reverie for cyclists and cycling generally means they give more respect for them, unlike Brits - if you recall both and Bradley Wiggins and Victoria Pendleton were knocked off their bikes whilst out on the roads training, so if they can, anyone can.

In my experience, a high percentage of vehicles (maybe not the majority) actively don't give sufficient space and act recklessly/agressively around cyclists, who don't have side impact bars, crumple zones and airbags to protect them. That being said, a good number of cyclists still act recklessly (not signalling, riding the wrong way down one-way streets, going too fast in built-up areas around pedestrians, etc) and selfishly (riding two abreast in heavy traffic, not pulling over so traffic can safely overtake without causing jams, etc) themselves when out and about, which obviously doesn't help the cyclists' cause.

Can anyone tell me if this is a proper automatic or is it an automated-manual? Thanks in advance.

Thank you. So a 2005 1.6 Audi A3, Petrol, Tiptronic should be fine then.

Again, do some research, but I believe the Tiptronic was a "proper" auto which also allowed you to select manual up and down changes....

My Puma has developed a whining noise. Road speed related rather than engine speed (sounds the same if you coast in neutral), but sounds much the same (ie same "note") whatever speed. If it was rear wheel drive I'd say it sounded like the differential but presume front drive cars don't have them. Not a wheel bearing. Any ideas gratefully received. Read more

Why do you say its not a wheel bearing? Have you changed them?
