ONS has released casualty statistics for 2012 www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23083117 - overall road deaths are down 8% but cyclist deaths are up 10%.
Surely it's time to segregate cyclists from motorised traffic - for their own safety ? Read more
Can anyone tell me if this is a proper automatic or is it an automated-manual? Thanks in advance.
Thank you. So a 2005 1.6 Audi A3, Petrol, Tiptronic should be fine then.
Again, do some research, but I believe the Tiptronic was a "proper" auto which also allowed you to select manual up and down changes....
My Puma has developed a whining noise. Road speed related rather than engine speed (sounds the same if you coast in neutral), but sounds much the same (ie same "note") whatever speed. If it was rear wheel drive I'd say it sounded like the differential but presume front drive cars don't have them. Not a wheel bearing. Any ideas gratefully received. Read more
Why do you say its not a wheel bearing? Have you changed them?
Anyone changed the heat exchanger water pipe that goes from the water pump to the heat exchanger itself (by the oil filter) ?
Not the return that goes into the rad.... Read more

Interesting Radford but the fact of the matter is that there has been no proof that the car was ever owned by Epstein, only that his company 'Brian Epstein Automobiles', latterly Brydor have their name on the logbook and bought it to be converted for Peter Harrison. The company was run by Terry Doran and bought quite a number of cars to move onto others, not Epstein, he was rather busy with a pop group.
Peter's widow is very clear that Epstein never owned it personally and that Peter bought it as a new car once Radford finished their work. She also states the Beatles had no contact with it other than it was converted around the same time a George's. What Coys suggest, and indeed the press, is perhaps a little wishful thinking. Hello all, I was decluttering my room this afternoon and I found 4 Bosch super plus (Yttrium) spark plugs (part no. 7404) that I bought last year and completely forgot about. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me as to wheter or not they would be ok to put into my MK2 Ford Focus (55 plate) 1.6 zetec hatchback petrol? I didn't have this car when I brought the plugs so doubt they will be right, but would just like a definite answer.
Many thanks in advance. Read more
Ah unfortunately the part # on these is FLR 8 LDCU +
But at least I know which ones to look out for, thank you very much for your help :)
I bought this car in 2007 from a private person. AA checked the car. After 2.5 years and 20,000 miles my engine collapsed. Just outside warranty but VW agreed to pay for a new engine. Early this year i had issues with the engine which VW dealer first said it was the throttle. Replaced it for 400 bp. Then light came on again and they said fuel pump issues. Replaced it for 200 bp. Then they tell me that the timing chain needs to be replaced otherwise the engine would breakdown. The replacement engine also had done 20000 miles and was about 2.5 years [just out of warranty]. I have spoken to VW and they have agreed to pay for 50% of the timing chain. I just cant believe a car would need two engines. they say it is just bad luck but I cant believe this. Seems to be me to be an issue with the car from design. Plus not sure if the VW dealership diagnosed it correctly whern they replaced the throttle and fuel pump. Do i just accept i am unlucky with the engines......happens to be the worse car ever...tonnes of other stuff gone wrong with it. Read more
Yeah the same timing chain in autobild. Got a dud here. They will not budge from 50%. Never buy a VW thats for sure
I was wondering what car I should get as my first car and needed some help from you guys to decide on a model! Here is what I am looking for specifically:

Whilst talking Daihatsu, don't forget Sirion..which is basically a rebodied Yaris but the autobox is a real one not MMT hell, they are usually much cheaper than equivelent Yaris for no partcular valid reason other than badge i suspect.
Our 1997 Grande Voyager is cutting out randomly. It usually starts up again if we get out of the car and rock it from side to side ?????
Recently we had our car in the garage as it would not run, it had a service, new pipes, leads etc, they also disconnected our gas conversion as they thought this was the problem.... Read more
Hi All
After being parked for over a week now at a friends place in a resident bay with a valid permits changed every night, the time zone starting at 09.00, I found a ticket on the windscreen of my courtesy car at 11.37-11.43.... Read more
One can only assume that they have taken offence at the manner in which the permit is displayed. Viewing the actual Order which will give chapter and verse as to how permit is displayed i.e. on the nearside front of the windscreen as opposed to just left on the dash.
Nevertheless this is one, if truth is being told, I would appeal and if they reject take it all the way to the Parking Adjudicator.....
I suppose (given Le Tour is almost a religious experience in France [despite no Frenchman winning in recent years]) that the Trench's reverie for cyclists and cycling generally means they give more respect for them, unlike Brits - if you recall both and Bradley Wiggins and Victoria Pendleton were knocked off their bikes whilst out on the roads training, so if they can, anyone can.
In my experience, a high percentage of vehicles (maybe not the majority) actively don't give sufficient space and act recklessly/agressively around cyclists, who don't have side impact bars, crumple zones and airbags to protect them. That being said, a good number of cyclists still act recklessly (not signalling, riding the wrong way down one-way streets, going too fast in built-up areas around pedestrians, etc) and selfishly (riding two abreast in heavy traffic, not pulling over so traffic can safely overtake without causing jams, etc) themselves when out and about, which obviously doesn't help the cyclists' cause.
