I bought this car in 2007 from a private person. AA checked the car. After 2.5 years and 20,000 miles my engine collapsed. Just outside warranty but VW agreed to pay for a new engine. Early this year i had issues with the engine which VW dealer first said it was the throttle. Replaced it for 400 bp. Then light came on again and they said fuel pump issues. Replaced it for 200 bp. Then they tell me that the timing chain needs to be replaced otherwise the engine would breakdown. The replacement engine also had done 20000 miles and was about 2.5 years [just out of warranty]. I have spoken to VW and they have agreed to pay for 50% of the timing chain. I just cant believe a car would need two engines. they say it is just bad luck but I cant believe this. Seems to be me to be an issue with the car from design. Plus not sure if the VW dealership diagnosed it correctly whern they replaced the throttle and fuel pump. Do i just accept i am unlucky with the engines......happens to be the worse car ever...tonnes of other stuff gone wrong with it.
