Do you know if the fitment of an emergency auto-release mechanism is a legal requirement on garage forecourts on LPG nozzles.

A friend (Not an acronym for me), has just pulled away from an LPG pump without disconnecting the nozzle.... Read more

SWMBO's car was hit by a bus last week, when she was stationary. For a variety of reasons we ended up for a temporary period with two courtesy cars: a Fiat 500 1.2 petrol manual and a BMW 318d auto. Neither of us like either car!

Both of us expected to find the Fiat cute, a little like a small puppy nipping here and there and generally sparky. So we anticpated a revvy engine, short quick gearchange, quick reactions to the steering and a slightly nervous suspension. What we got was a huge steering wheel, dull reactions to steering and accelorator inputs and a fairly adequate ride at best. I had hoped for a grown up sort of Citroen C1 and I got instead a cut down 1970s Mercedes.... Read more

We ... want to look back or get in and think that looks fantastic. Now, just buying a brand because of image, that shows a gross lack of imagination.

But most of them don't - they look just about the same. Hence the mindless rush to obese versions of otherwise normal cars which someone started a few years back, and all the makers had to join in.

Am going to Britanny this weekend and then to the South of France in September. The Garmin Sat Nav is a godsend but understand these are banned in France where they have the speed camera alert activated. Is it just a question of deactivating or can they not be used at all? Help!

Hi all. I'm seeking some advice before shredding my wiring! I created a lighting board for a trailer using plyboard. The tail, brake and indicators all work without a problem. The foglight doesn't work at all and when I switch it on it takes power off the number plate light. I've chained the earth wire around the lights. In sequence it goes to the indicators, the brake/tail lights, foglight and then the numberplate light. So, what's going on? Too many connections to the earth wire perhaps? Incidentally, turning on the foglight also blew the car's foglight fuse; I'm pretty relieved that that's all it did!

No, fortunately not canbus and yes :-[ earth wiring was in series. In my defence, I'd taken this from an internet source and made an assumption that as it was only the earth thath was wired in series then it would be fine. Patently not!. For the record, yes, it's standard 7 core cable. Easily rectified with a bit of soldering and probably a chocolate block connector though I don't like to use these.

Hi all,

I need to send off my ecu for test and repair but who to send it to? Any recommendations?... Read more

The ECU Doctor based in Plymouth is supposed to be good, they have a website but they can't repair all ECU's. Also, shouldn't the ECU you replaced six months ago have a warranty? Look into why it failed too as ECU's should be fairly robust.

I have had my 04 Fabia 1.2 comfort for 6 trouble free years now, and have just retired and fancy getting something a little newer, another Fabia is prbably the best option but i do fancy somrthing different, looking at maybe Polo, Jazz, or Focus. Not to sure if i need a diesel or not, as long as its similar in fuel consumpton to my present car it should be ok. Lots of the hondas i look at have i shift, is this any good or is it trouble. Any advice or suggestions on suitable cars appreciated, i plan to keep the car for at least 6 years again. Cars i wont by are any Citroens, Peugeots or Nissan Micra Read more

I'm having a range of electrical issues with the car, I'm not sure if they are seperate or related but any assistance in understanding them and possibly getting them fixed would be brilliant. The problems are as follows:

I would say you have a series of minor issues, but not related. The fan is likely to be the motor and/or the speed resistor. The rear wiper could be fractured wiring, where ir runs through the plastic tubing into the tailgate. The lighting fault could be poor connections or bad earth to the light cluster on the right side. All fairly easy fixes.hth
