I am sure I have seen some car reviews, online or a magazine, which provide helpful DCb levels. Can anyone help me out and re-direct me? Read more

I use the TP programme on my car radio for traffic news. Increasingly I notice, between rush hours, that there is no news, only re-cycled reports from earlier problems. This only applies to BBC local stations but they are inclined to interrupt other BBC programmes at inappropriate moments, usually when the detective in the play is about to announce who dunnit! Surely it cannot be beyond their wit to listen and find out if Radio2 and 4 have a programme at an important stage and then pick their moment? I know their stated aim is to bring traffic news every 15 minutes or so, but as already said, mostly it is not news so therefore can wait for a suitable moment. If some new incident does happen then by all means announce it immediately. It just needs a little thought to make the system more engaging, or am I being unreasonable? Don't answer that!! The best early traffic warning system i ever had was the original TrafficMaster YQ unit, never equalled IMO, scan the whole country in seconds which enabled you to not only choose whichever route was problem free but the more experienced user would look out for trouble on other routes which would probably affect one of your own possible routes, and able to keep an eye on things en route.

Quite why TM closed it i never found out, presumably partly through not being digital it had no possibility of monitoring/surveillance of owners/users.

I have a problem with the climate control system. With the climate control unit on Auto and temperature set to 18 degrees on both sides; on a warm sunny day I had noticed the A/C light on but the inside of the car was not cooling down like it use to.
The car went into my local Renault dealership last Summer for re-gassing and servicing of the A/C system.
The next day which was a warm day again, I started the car and waited. The control unit was cooling for A/C again so I waited for the usual clunk of the compressor kicking in which it did and the blower fan started to increse speed to cool the inside of the car down. The display was indicating facia vents and floor vents but the air coming through these was only blown ambient temperature air.
I checked the passenger side and this was blowing very cold air from the A/C system. Both sides were still set at 18 degrees C.
I increased the drivers side to 26 degrees and hot air came through with still very cold air from the passenger side. I decreased the drivers side to 16 degrees but only ambient air was coming through.
I have gained access to the temp mixing motors (one on each side of the distribution unit) and have seen these both operate when the temperature dial is increased or decreased, only moving to two positions. The day of testing was not a warm day so I doubt the A/C would be on. Do these motors work to three positions being 1, Hot air 2, ambient air and 3, A/C cooled air?
I have read other posts regarding other issues with A/C indicating low refrigerant could be the cause but if the evaporator is cooling as mine is for the passenger side of my car, could low gas still be the cause?
Another possibillity, the internal temp sensor located in front of the rear view mirror. The fan is working on the sensor. Is there two sensors located here i.e one for the passenger side and one for the drivers side or is it just one sensor for a general inside temperature?
I apologise for the long post but I wanted to be as accurate in explaining diagnosis to you as possible.
Any solutions to this problem would be gratefully appreciated.

25 years ago a relative lived in Dunstable, close to the M1 and had to commute to Watford. If he didn't leave by 6.30 he knew he was in for a long trip.

Hi all,

Car is a 2002 2.0 hdi 5 door 307.

Have a problem with the front wiper arms catching on the bonnett and lifting it slightly as they sweep.

The black paint on the wipers arms is wearing away and also the bonnet is being worn away too.

Has anyone had this or know of an issue with this?

Does anyone know of a fix?

many thanks in advance.

Adam

I suggest you check if the wiper motor etc has either moved from its bolted position or become loose as this could affect the clearance of the wipers with the bonnet. It is also possible (but unlikely) that the bonnet may have been incorrectly repositioned.

Due to the age and condition of the car, the dealer wouldn't be looking to sell it/spend money on it, and it would go to auction anyway.

Just found rust on the door panel fold on my car and will be going to see about a warranty claim at the local dealer tomoro (I'm not naming the brand yet!) as it's well within the warranty period and has full main dealer history. I'm anticipating a battle and just wondering if anyone has ever taken a manufacturer to the small claims court and what the outcome was?

Hopefully it won't come to this but good to know these things in advance...... Read more

Two years ago I had a protracted dialogue with VW customer services over perfortion rust on a 2005 Passat. It also was a known problem and even had a VAG bulletin on how to fix it but they wouldn't pay for 100% of the repair until I said I had had enough and would prefer to try my chances in the small claims court rather than accept their measly 40% offer which they had improved to 70%. They relented in the end which I knew they had done with lots of other cars as the forums were awash with stories of outright rejection through to 100% paid. Interestingly (to me) it was dealt with as a goodwill settlement from customer services due to my loyalty to the brand (VWs, Skodas and Seats in the family) as the warranty department had said it was not in any way a warranty issue - strange that as the car came with a 12 year anti perforation warranty and had been main dealer serviced so the annual inspections must have been done.
