This is the first car I've had with a DAB radio. I've noticed that almost always on the hour the sound is muted for a few seconds. This invariably cuts out the 'pips' and the beginning of the news.

Is this something that is common on DAB radios or a peculiarity of my radio?... Read more

The DAB radio in my Fabia has been a revelation. I'd assumed it would be more prone to drop outs than VHF/FM but actually it's rock steady 99% of the time.

I am looking for a new car, I have chosen the model, a Sirocco but I need to decide the engine which means a couple of test drives

I just had the same experience with the Audi Dealer, won't repeat it all on here, but I fared much better at BMW where they were extremely professional and courteous.

Guess its just down to luck. In the end the sales staff have GOT to sell cars so this ignorance and failure to call back just shows how poor they are....

Every jouney car starts well but stops when revs are low it sort of stutters along. Stoping engine and staring again using high revs car goes until revs are low then it comes to put put put almost halt . It has had a full oil change . New valves six months ago. Suspension was fixed too.

Any ideas I am quite desperate as it may fail on a junction.... Read more

Also check the throttle butterfly. if it's gunged up, clean it and check all pipes in the area for blockages, especially the one that goes to the MAP sensor. Also have the base idle setting checked along with operation of the stepper motor if it has one.

Hi, I bought my Zetec S TDCI just over 12 months ago and it has been a very problematic car. It is a 57 reg with 60k on clock.

Now when I start it the engine feels like it is about to stall and when I accelerate there is a rattle/ticking noise. This only happens when the engine is cold and seems to go once the turbo comes in to play, or at least it is much quieter!

Is this an injector issue? Also is the dreaded TDCI turbo problem a consequence of injector problems? I am seriously thinking of chucking the towel in this time and buying something new, maybe a swift sport :-). Just wanting to know if its worth fixing considering I have spent a lot on it already and it has been off the road a fair bit which is killer when you commute Read more

dieselnut

It sounds like you have a leaking injector. Read through this post as it will almost certainly be the same problem. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=91541

It will need fixing sooner rather than later or you will end up needing a new turbo as well....

hi all, just wondering if anybody has had any dealings with this crowd, they're a large hire company (cars and vans) and they sell old stock, I've heard good things, but just want to check before I dive in. Read more

Hi,

I have a Ford Focus 1.6 zetec on a Y plate and has done approximately 150000 miles. Over the past week or so, the car has started to jump on occasion when at low speeds and pulling away. Radio sounds a bit fuzzy when this happens and the speedometer jumps slightly with the 'door open' light flashing up on the dash. Sounds electrical to me ??... Read more

Further to my 'thank you' message. I seem to be having a few more problems. Interior lights not working and wiper 'intermittent' not working. Although normal wipers are working are working. Is this all connected ? Please help.

We recently bought a second hand VW Passat 2.0 diesel 58 plate estate from a reputable garage (not a VW delearship). After 2 months the car brokedown and had to be taken to a local VW Sinclair Cardiff. One aside, the service we received at VW Sinclair Cardiff was outstanding! The VW dealership traced the fault to carbon build up on the EGR valve. The EGR valve had been replaced by another VW delearship (name withheld for the time being) but they had failed to install a required software update at that time. This failure led to the EGR valve not operating correcting causing carbon build up and eventual failure. The cost of repair was in excess of £1500. VW, UK supplied the parts free of charge as a gesture of goodwill - much appreciated. However, they were not willing to pay for the labour costs even though the intial work was carried out at a VW dealership. They claim that VW dealerships are merely franchises and VW UK cannot be help liable for the quality of their workmanship!

It is my opinion that the previous VW dealership whose negligence in not updating the vehicle software as required by replacing the EGR valve should cover the labour charge we have had to pay. Does anyone on this forum have any similar experiences or advice to offer?... Read more

Thanks for you reply and good suggestion. We have confirmed with the Cardiff dealer that the update was required for the EGR valve to work correctly but having documentary evidence would help.

Thanks again for your help!
