Hey all,
Was hoping for some advice. My Astra G has started acting up in the past few days. It seems to be misfiring or jerking, particularly under acceleration. This is also leading to power issues, surging etc.... Read more
Hi. I've just bought a 2008 C5 (after owning a 2002 model for 5 years) from a Jaguar Dealership. When I viewed the car it hadn't been prepped and there was a crease in the rear bumper. "Don't worry, we'll get that out, no problem" said the salesman, but now he's telling me on the phone they haven't managed to do it. I'm due to collect the car saturday, where do I stand/what should I do? Read more
I agree with the posts above. However, you could use it as a lever to sweeten the deal in your favour.
You could tell them the deal's off unless they sort it; and then start haggling for a big discount, based on the fact that you will have to make good the dealer's failed promise and that the damage obviously requires a new bumper (you could price up a replacement bumper with a call to a Citroen dealer, plus labour, so you have an idea of costs)....
Dupilicate post.
I was one the first people to arrive at the scene after an apparent head on accident on a B road. Fortunately someone was already on the phone to the emergency services. The driver of the Bentley Continental GT appeared unhurt. The driver of the small van..................
Until the second police car arrived I directed traffic, so it didn't go beyond the crossroads, just before the bend that hid the accident. All apart from two cars took notice of me. One woman in a Nissan 350Z carried on until she reached the accident. The male passenger in a Fabia estate seemed agitated I'd stopped people to enable them to take a very small detour to get round the accident. I told him they should continue straight on if they wanted to be obstructed by an accident blocking the road.... Read more
oldroverboy, I just parked my car partly on the verge and turned on the hazard lights. Then I raised by hand when I could see traffic approaching (luckily it is a relatively quiet road in the middle of the day), so I could stop traffic before it reached the crossroads, let alone the accident. A lad in a van of a local civil engineering company thought plod would tell me off. Quite the opposite was the case.
I have a 2011 2l tdci which has had an annoying fault since new. The heater /aircon fan works fine when you set the temperature at 18 or above and regulates its speed according to the internal temperature required. However once set to 17 or 16 the fan runs at a constant 80-90% full speed. Not only is this very noisy but it means that it is not reacting to the temperature change in the car. Reverting to manual speed selection and it works at whatever setting you select. This happens regardless of whether you are using the aircon or not. It has been back to the dealer several times and they have replaced a heater module and a sensor but neither has had any effect. They are now saying that this is how it is meant to run, as there is nothing more they can do, and they have checked other Smax/Galaxys recently with the same results. This I suspect is because it has been hot and the systems were trying to cool the cars down which have probably been parked in the sun.
Have any other members had this problem with their cars, and if so how was it fixed? Or has anyone got any suggestions how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help given. Read more
Thanks for the reply. I realise that when it is hot the fan will run fast to reduce the temperature. However it never reduces its speed. The system works fine in the winter when temps outside are lower and the internal temp is set at 18 or above. But when the outside temp is say 13 and you set the internal temp to16 the fan will run at 80-90% speed all the time. In The previous S max which I had it worked throughout the temp range. Also a Mondeo which I also have can be stood in the same temps beside the Smax and its fan will just be ticking over slowly. I know I can set the fan speed manually but this rather defeats the purpose of having climate control. So to my mind there is something not right with the S max.
Two weeks ago, we drove our car (Mondeo Zetec 2.0 Petrol, 2002 model) to Penzance from Oxford (~280miles).
On the other morning when we just started our journey back to Oxford from our hotel in Penzance, after only half a mile driving, the speedometer suddenly stopped working.
And the car then became bumpy occasionally, like the bumpy you feel when releasing clutch too fast when switching gear. It only happened once or twice every 10 mins or so in the first 50miles. And when it bumped, the speedometer did pick up for a second or so.
We did not realize that it would cause a big problem at first. We thought it simply was a speedo sensor failure, and would be an easy repair after back home. Since we got an GPS with speed readings, it would not cause too much trouble for us.
After around 50 miles driving, the bumps became worse and worse, especially when speed was below 50mph and when it was accelerating from stop. At one roundabout, the car was so bumpy like engine suddenly stopped working and resumed working and again and again that it almost got hit by another car joining roundabout. I thought it may not be safe to drive to Oxford any more, and we stopped the car and called for the roadside assistance (Aria assistance, coming with my car insurance policy) to come and look at it. They outsourced the job to a local garage. When the guy came 1.5hr after calling, he checked the volt of battery, and it was OK. He consulted the situation with his colleague in the garage that they concluded that it was simply a speedo sensor failure, and it was safe to drive back to Oxford. The bumpy was caused by the on board vehicle computer that it was confused by the inconsistency between speed and other readings. So the engine was not fed with proper amount of fuel sometimes. He said as long as the speed was kept high enough (>50mph), it would be OK. And there would be soon dual carriageway all the way to Oxford.
What he said did make sense. And the car seemed OK when speed was high. So we carried on our trip until it was on M5 just passed Essex when the car started to bump every 2 or 3 seconds no matter what speed. The check engine light turned on. Since each bump would cause a sudden deceleration, we could not maintain speed any more. It was very dangerous situation on a motorway. We had to pull on to the hard shoulder and call the assistance again for a recovery back to our home at Oxford.
Currently, the check engine light will keep on even when the engine is idle. The sound of engine sounds normal. But I can still feel the bumpy when I try to drive it from the road side to my driveway.
I am wondering what may cause the problem? Is the problem repairable? How much would I expect for the repairing cost? And if the consequent problems were caused by following the incorrect suggestions by the assistance staff, is the Aria Assistance liable for the cost of repairing?
Thanks! Read more

I looked at buying a Insight I took one for a long test drive it was worse than a Prius utterly underpowered not very economical very poorly made with lots of poor plastics and very expensive if its out of warranty.Everybody to their own but I have to agree with most reports on this vehicle I have now bought a VAG produced car no VED (if bought in the UK)very cheap insurance and very economical in my opinion a much better vehicle..
Hi,
After two years of not receiving a road tax reminder in the post I called the DVLA who told me that a VIC marker had been placed on the vehicle record and that this must have been done by an insurance company writing off the vehicle. They were unable (or unwilling) to tell me which insurance company had done this or when. I have had no notification about this which makes me wonder if someone has cloned the car and changed the address details and then the cloned car has been written off.... Read more

If it isn't the cards themselves, it sounds to me like you've got a latch problem:

lock motor not working

lock switch not working...
