Hi can you help me whith the code for my ford fiesta radio M038875 Read more

Try a dealer. You'll need your documents and ID and go to the dealer in the Fiesta not another car.

Or the previous owner.

Hi, I crossed a red light of which I have no idea of. I recieved a NIP and I asked for photos. I wrote back after duly checking photos with wife/father that I do not remember the incident. I have recieved a letter that I have to identify the identity as a law and a notice will be issued shortly to which I should reply. I have not recieved any notice since last 7 days and am wondering what to do next. The original 28 days are about to pass. Help!!!!!!!! Read more

What i intend to know is whether i should reply to them or should I wait for the notice?

My Lexus IS250 has a fault with radio, medium wave crackles and sounds as if there is bad connextion. I had this problem when I bought the car, the dealer changed the unit and all was well until a few months ago. The selling Lexus dealer suggested the fault was due to the change to DAB. Nonsense I thought at the time.
Has anyone else experienced this fault? The car is still under warranty so I suppose it can be fixed at Lexus. Read more

As it happens I have just recently been up on the roof to replace the bracket that holds the aerial pole. Whilst I was there I inspected both aerials (one TV, one FM) and connections (which aren't that old anyways) and found them to be in good order. So I am confident I have no aerial issues at home. But thenks for the suggestion anyway.

On the move, I have found that FM reception dips out in areas where it didn't used to. I have found this to be true in 3 different vehicles, so I find it hard to believe that's aerial issues either.

on my 2003 mk4 tdi arl golf, just above the oil filler cap, there is an unused plastic connector coming out of a short pipe between head and the manifold, what is this for?

also i seem to have an issue with low boost! no smoke whatsoever but had it remapped few months back, yet recently a dyno showed 145 bhp! it has just had a new n75 valve. It struggles to go beyond 3000rpm when on the move, when it does, nothing really happens! I can't really see any leaks in the boost pipes, normally they would be dripping oil if there was! my intercooler is probably the original but i dont want to spend the time/money changing it if its not the cause! my turbo does seem to spool by itself after short journeys, as if i was revving the engine when im not. Almost sounds like the fans are kicking in but its coming from turbo, car has 165k. 'economy' remap few months back should mean i see 170+ bhp, not 145. also i struggle to get more than 50 mpg on motorway, what could this be? Read more

what would be the easiest way to do a boost leak test? smoke? cant see anything near IC, though its probably the original, the turbo area looks oily, though not on the pipes going in and out of it

Following a brief but strong thunderstorm (domestic electrical supply disrupted briefly) my (garaged metal door significant?) car lost its selected settings for indicator repeat, auto door lock & radio tuning pre-sets.

Is this unusual? Does it indicate a lack of ESD protection?

Incidentally after a dealer software upgrade I had to re-enter all settings but perhaps this is normal? Read more

Does it indicate a lack of ESD protection?

No. This manufacturer used to own a state-of-the-art EM testing chamber in the Warwickshire countryside. I'm sure they've now got one in Bavaria after selling the UK one. Testing includes simulated lightning strike, but it is virtually impossible to replicate the raw power of a significant and close strike.

I had thought that with Anpr cameras and Sorn requirements that the days of untaxed vehicles was over. It seems to be a regular thing now to see an out of date tax disc.
I don't know if a report to the DVLA has any effect. I did pass details of 1 vehicle on to local police, the reply I received was to say that nothing could be done until the date had passed 2 months and 1 day. By then it was four months out of date anyway. Read more

We had a pick up truck parked in a nearby road from November until March, I happened to notice that the tax disc was not displayed. I am aware that the DVLC has a web site that allows you to notify it of this, which I did immediatly giving its exact location. it was moved within three days. Good work.

I have a BMW X5 3.0 diesel, just coming up to its fifth birthday. I got a quote for BMW Insured Warranty Comprehehsive cover for next year, and it quoted £926.71 for a year with £100 excess for a car with 50,000 miles, but said to log in to the BMW warranty site for an exact quote. I did, and entered my mileage which is 68,355. The quote soared to £1491. That's around 50% hike for 18,000 extra miles with a diesel. I would have thought reading Honest John on diesels and short journeys that a car with 68,000 in five years should be in better condition than one with 50,000.

Is this extra 50% justified? Is it worth it anyway? My car has always done a 100 mile each way journey once or twice a week, and around town I use my wife's Suzuki Splash for all short journeys. Read more

The BMW warranty is actually very good - which is why it is expensive. It can also be extended indefinately - as long as the warranty has never been broken the car is still eligible for one. There are, for example, some old E39 M5's about which the warranty has been kept up on which are worth thousands more than examples which haven't.

At the end of the day it is an insurance policy and a calculated risk. You could just put the same money away for potential bills and you may well come out ahead, you might not.
