June 2013
My daughter has had a 2003 Polo since February and it was running well until we took it to the main Vw franchise in Slough to have a full service. We then started to have a problem with the throttle resetting as if you had taken your foot off the accelerator pedal. This would happen in any gear and any time. Some days it didn't happen and others it happened lots. It would clear if you let the pedal off and pushed it down again as you were driving along. No ECU lights came on when it happened. No other problems with tick-over, etc.
Anyway after trawling the internet and changing pedal and coils, I saw one obscure post about a similar problem on another make suggesting that a brake pedal switch could cause a problem. So I bought a new one and fitted it and the problem has disappeared.
Now the interesting thing is that the switch that was on there is not vw but is exactly the same except it appears to have been modified. The white tip of the plunger is 3 or 4 times longer than the new one. This appears to have the affect and of cutting off the accelerator as if you were actually braking.
I find it extremely suspicious that it occurred after the service at the main dealer but can't prove anything. They have said it must have just gone faulty.
Hopefully this thread maybe useful to others. Please let me know if similar experiences had with main dealer. Or if further information needed. Read more

I Ike the look of this new Vauhall.although it seems expensive. I have seen a roadtest in this week's Auto Express which discusses the car and one of the downsides is given as "Poor Residuals" - as the car isn't on the road yet (SFAIK) how can a valid opinion be offered on residual/trade in values? My B class is almost 3 years old. It has developed its first fault requiring a warranty claim. Both services have been done at MB dealers. Called in, all records on their system, car due in next week..
My advice is get a price for the service and haggle with the main dealers, they will reduce their initial quotation.
As above guys timing belt has snapped on my mk4 astra, done alot of damage and the engine has done 185k. So best option is to replace the engine.
Theres one on ebay but the cam cover and coilpack look completly different.
Will this still fit into my astra without issues???
Also the car has aftermarket LPG can i just disconnect this or is there are a certain way to do this ?

My 2011 1.6TDCi Grand C-Max has developed an intermittent loss of power over the last couple of weeks, normally after starting from cold.
When it happens the car crawls along, and putting your foot down gives no response. There are no warning messages or lights on the dash. Then a short while later the car will suddenly rev normally, as though the turbo has just kicked in.... Read more
I recently replaced my oil cooler and a water pipe and in the process took off the lower metal air charge pipe which goes from the inlet manifold to the EGR I guess? This had quite a bit of carbon so cleaned out what i could and same with the inlet manifold where it connects and the other end.
Whilst replacing all this I accidently broke a leak off pipe connector. When I finished everything I went to start it to see if all was OK. It fired and ran for about 2 seconds then stopped. Now when i turn it over it makes a higher pitched whiring sound, nothing like it should sound. I checked the cambelt and all OK but it seems like there is no compression.
I replaced all the leak off connectors and pipes but that has not helped. I plugged in opcom and the only fault codes were p0070-71 and p0500-74. I did a live data test whilst cranking the engine and will post that here if it helps.
Anyone got any idea why this has happened and how to solve it? All was running great previously. I suspect some carbon has gone in the inlet manifold and blocked all air to the engine, is this feasible? Read more
All been cleaned out and got it back together and it is the same when cranking. I have done a short video clip so you can hear how it sounds when cranking, it is not right. The file is about 6MB on my server here: www.threetenradio.com/astra.wmv
