I'm unhappy with the quality of cloth on the Jetta seats.

It seems like really thin cotton and looks like it will wear through within time.... Read more

I've seen a Skoda Fabia's cloth seats retrimmed professionally by a specialist company for £1500+ and thought they looked good but not fantastic. I'd imagine for £300 you'll get something pretty crude, held together by elastic, velcro or tie straps that won't look "fitted" once you've sat on them a few times.

You're obviously bored with your Jetta what with the resprayed panel, the press twice locking, cloth seats so chuck in another £200 on top of the £300 for the carp leather seat covers and get a decent remap and have some fun. ...

Hi all ,I've just been reading details of the government crackdowns on short term lenders .

I wonder if these companies are being vilified unnecessarily ?

Think about it ,would you want to lend your own money to the individuals who borrow in this way ,I know I wouldn't .

We read continuously of the huge rates of interest being charged, which is technically correct .However the reality is if you borrow £100 ,you repay £130 after 28 days . Given that most of the borrowers are credit impaired ,isn't the charge reasonable ?. Consider also most of the borrowers cannot access finance through conventional lenders ,this is their only option .

Finally it appears that these lenders make a large part of their profits by levying fees on borrowers who don't repay on time .So to often the borrowers don't even repay the small cash amounts they borrow . Read more

(The belief that home-ownership is the right way to go is, by and large, a British obsession. Most people in continental Europe are quite happy to rent.) Why ? A mortgage lasts 25 or 30 years ,then you own a valuable asset , that will benefit your children with carefull planning . Rent , you pay for ever with no asset .i don't believe it's possible to make a case for renting ,unless of course your a landlord ,whether in Europe or the uk.

Because for a significant number of people mortgage borrowing is impossible.

Apart from affordability other factors include precarious employment, a need for mobility, health and age....

I have a 52 plate with 107000 on the clock and it has some problems. For starters the glow plug light constantly flashes...no amount of restarts makes it go away.

Seconly...it doesn't like cold starts. Once it does start it doesn't sound too bad although it is a tad lumpy. When idle it does kick out a little white smoke bit give it some revs and its like a fog machine. The car also cuts out under acceleration. Once the car warms up it still smokes but not as much. Gentle acceleration stops it cutting too.... Read more

Is the plastic petrol tank a direct replacement for the metal one fitted to this vehicle as a friend has a leaking metal tank on her Amica but has been told that a plastic tank is more expensive to fit due to extra parts needed. The garage did not say what the extra parts are, but told her that they could not do a repair to the metal tank as the leak is too near to the fuel outlet pipe.

Any help please, thank s Read more

So I'm finally replacing my 2002 1.8 petrol Mondeo hatchback. I was generally happy with the car though it had a few problems other than wear items - fuel pump, two springs, other suspension parts, wheel bearings, HT leads, rear calipers. But for an 11 year old car owned for 8 years not too bad.

I only do 7000 miles a year so I'm thinking petrol. I like a big boot for carrying bikes, washing machines and other large things. ... Read more

Looks like a very good choice - best of luck with it. The 1.4 is an efficient and economical engine which should suit your needs very well. The current Mondeo is a really big car, nearer to the Skoda Superb in size: with the Octavia you get something a little more wieldy on Highland roads yet still with a huge boot.

Our three year old Doblo has recently developed a creak in the steering, mainly at low speeds, but may may just be more noticeable at low speeds. The power steering fluid levels are fine, so the question is what else could it be?

It sounds expensive, the warranty runs out in a month so I may have to get it to the Fiat dealer ASAP! Read more

The Fiat dealer has just rung me again to tell me that the suspension parts are currently unavailable to order. So I'm not sure where that leaves me, I presume that when the parts become available they will still fix it under warranty but is it something that can fail completely?

Excuse my lack of technical knowledge! When the rear suspension bushes needed replacing at the service last year it took 7 months for the parts to arrive so maybe I can anticipate a similar wait!

Oh well, at least I've got a Panda Trekking for the weekend, I'm off to find a muddy field somewhere......
