Hi, I need to change the Suction Control Valve on the fuel pump on an Xtrail 2004. Could someone please tell me what the easiest way to access the fuel pump is to do this and what needs removing to access it? I have a copy of the workshop manual which describes a long convoluted process to remove the fuel pump but I'm wondering if there is an easier way as I only need to access it to change the valve not remove the pump?... Middle lane hogs now face a £100 on the spot fine and 3 points on their licence.
I know that annoys a lot of people when someone hogs the middle lane for no reason, although I think the points on the licence are a bit harsh.... Read more
I have long-since concluded most drivers stay claim-free, not out of any high standard of driving skill, but out of sheer chance...luck, if you will?
Goodness me! You don't need to be a very good driver to avoid accidents. It's really down to diligence and a modicum of knowledge and skill. I bet I've forgotten vast swathes of the highway code-mainly through lack of use....
i know i shouldn't say this but once a skoda always.... Read more
Hogging the middle lane should be a 'hanging' offence to hear our righteous representatives tell it. Really it's just another thinly veiled ruse to milk the motorist.
One wonder's, should they have their way, is what the 'overtaking lane' will be used for in the future, won't it be superfluous......probably turned into a high speed (min 110mph toll conduit for the rich and famous that can afford it). The reality of the 'hogger/clogger' is while they may sit in the quicker (centre lane) they aren't doing 50mph but 70ish and should anyone want to get past then isn't that what the third lane's for..... I have no problem whatsoever in fining the hell out of people who do not comply with the law - so what if middle lane hoggers, outside lane nose-to-tailers, uninsured, bad parkers et al have to pay through the nose for their mistakes.
so much the better.
Read the Highway Code, learn to drive properly and legally and there is no reason to worry. Most of the bad driving I witness is as a result of laziness, complacency, arrogance or ignorance and there's no excuse for any of it in my book....
I have an 08 Ford Fiesta 1.4 tdci and recently had a new water pump fitted under warranty. Since then I have been hearing a Whirring sound. It seems to appear obvious after the engine is warmed up, after driving 3-5 miles or so, and is at its worst when the accelerator pedal is pressed down a small amount, approx' 1cm or so, and it also does it at the same spot when the accelerator pedal is on the way back up when changing gear. The spot where the whirring noise is loudest is so obvious that I can move the pedal up or down to the exact same spot and switch the noise on and off without any problem. If I rest my foot on that spot the noise is continuous. If I move the pedal slightly up or down the noise seems to disappear or at least is less obvious. The mechanic at the dealership where I bought the car tells me that it is perfectly normal and all fiestas with IB5 gearboxes make this noise but I'm not convinced as the noise wasn't there before the new water pump was fitted, and I think that it is more than likely that the new water pump isn't quite right. Any opinions would be very much appreciated and I would especially like to know if other Fiesta 1.4 tdci owners could confirm whether this whirring noise is indeed normal and evident on their cars. I took the car out for a drive this evening and I'm pretty sure that the water pump is the problem.
Does anyone know if it is possible to isolate or disconnect the water pump to see if the noise goes away?
Hi folks,
Hope I'm posting this in the right place, if not apologies!... Read more
Hi,
here goes a complete guide about how to unlock your 6000 cd radio code:...
I recently had a major service done on my car, part of the service involved replacing the nearside front suspension ball joint. When the car was returned to me I noticed the steering was stiff and checked under the car when I got home. I noticed a bolt hanging from the underside of the drivers side sub frame, the bolt was also covered in anti seize spray and had obviously been subject to the attention of the garage.. I didn't want to risk driving back with the bolt hanging there so I tightened it up myself and then drove back to the garage to have it checked. The steering was now as light as usual. The garage kept the car for the afternoon and gave it me back with assurances that it was now ok.
Approximately five weeks later while turning around on full lock the front nearside ball joint came away from the wheel and the wheel collapsed pulling the driveshaft out and damaging it.... Read more
Consumer Direct closed at the end of March - the link says so. It diverts to a Citizens Advice web page, which I'm sure is a worthy site, but no real help here as the OPs complaint is quite specific and more than a bit technical. So go away PPI man you are not helping.
My brother had repeated failures of lower ball joints on another car. It seems likely there are ball joints and ball joints since his original lasted 200,000 miles, and the replacement, less than 15,000. Longer than 5 weeks though....

Nice piece. Shame there's no TV programme planned. Cars are fairly visual I'd have thought.
