Is anyone aware of problems with the o/s driveshaft oil seal on the new Focus? My car is a 2011 Focus 1.6 Zetec. A year ago at it's first annual service (at 8.5K) the dealer reported that the o/s driveshaft oil seal was leaking and replaced it under warranty. Last week at the second annual service (at 12.5K) the same fault was apparent, it is being replaced again under warranty. I had intended to hang on to this car for a few years, but I'm beginning to wonder! Read more
The dealer should be looking for some other causal factor beyond a simple defective seal. Imperfections in the drive shaft surface for example. Excess movement of the driveshaft.

If you had enough money which luxury car would you buy and why?... Read more
Grand Marquis?
Mercury Grand Marquis - sibling of the Ford Crown Victoria - I doubt that Bentley or Rolls-Royce regard it as competition....

Hi all, I purchased a Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.8l Petrol 02 plate with 87,000 miles on the clock about 5 weeks ago. I paid £1295 from a used car garage. Now it wasnt perfect, a little scruffy it had no parcel shelf in the back and no interior mirror, and the passenger wing mirror was cable tied on and the front drivers fog bezel was missing, but i thought thats ok i can do these bits myself. The engine looked clean with no signs of oil leakage and all the electrics seemed to work ok. So to cut a long story short these are the worrying problems ive got.

Sounds like the rings and bores are shot.
If I were you I'd press the garage for your money back.
Hi,
I have bought a Honda Jazz off an auction. The description said that it's Cat C. After recovering the car to a Honda dealer's garage to be repaired, they say, they cannot gauranty if it'll work. Apparently this car had an incident in which the fron-bottom of the car is damaged. This damage includes the engine, potentioally gear box, one of the wheels. It's the engine that the engineers cannot guaranty that it's fixable.... Read more
The other point is, anything is repairable but at a cost.
If you don't believe me, you only have to look at some before and after pictures of a restoration of a vintage or veteran car. When I rebuilt my three wheeled Morgan, I purposely didn't keep tally of what I spent as I know it would frighten me! However, you certainly could have bought a very nice second hand car, and probably a cheap new one for what I spent. And that takes no account of my time.
I have come across a car dealership on autotrader called 'abc motors ltd' and their location is Perivale Mssx. I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about them, bought a car from them etc. as I can't find much on a search. Read more
Thanks for both the replies oldtoffee. Test drove 08 gt tdi just now and it's pretty good. May well be taking your advice and opting for a vw.

Probably because they are easy to steal.
I am currently looking at getting a new car. I previously had a golf IV and am currently driving a banger of a 206 but which has a 1.9 hdi engine which gives a bit of bite.
I was impressed with comfort etc of the golf but I am weighing up the options and am trying to decide between an 07/08 gt tdi 140 an a3 2.0 tdi se equivalent or a slightly newer bog standard 1.6 focus tdi zetec or titanium. The reason for the latter is that is the more sensible option in terms of age and mileage as I can get one with about 30k rather than the other two with 45-60k. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the best option.
In the end I want a fun car with enough power to hold my own on the motorway and with a decent amount of kit. I don't however want to end up paying thousands in bills for expensive parts. Read more
>>>In the end I want a fun car with enough power to hold my own on the motorway and with a decent amount of kit.
The majority of cars that age and engine size will easily hold their own on the motorway, some might get to the required speed a second or two quicker. If you want fun, I guess you mean good to drive off the motorway on the twisty bits. Focus Zetec with the firmer suspension. If you want the kit then go for the Titanium which will still be a great drive. The Focus won't be as quick in a straight line as the bigger engines VW powered cars, it should be cheaper to tax and fuel though. I'd scrap the A3 idea and go for a Golf or Seat Leon or Skoda Octavia if you fancy a VAG engineered car and save a fair bit of cash even thought the Audi (and Golf) should hold their value a bit better. The extra miles on the Golf and A3 shouldn't concern you unless you only keep it a short time....
I have recently bought a 2001 Nissan X Trail 2.2 Sport and took it to my local garage for a oil change. Whilst there they said it needed a new near side front coil spring so they replaced it for me. I then got a tow bar fitted at another garage and when I collected the car they told me that the new spring was unsafe to drive with as it was not original and had only 3 coils, where as the original Nissan spring has 5 coils. They pointed out that the car was not level so would be even more dangerous if I was to tow with it. I returned it to my local garage and they said it was completely safe and was only uneven due to a bush on the passenger side that would need replacing soon. They are happy to replace either coil spring so that they match but don't think I need to at all. Who should I believe!? Is the car safe to drive? Should I have one of the coil springs replaced so they match? if so can it be replaced with an unoriginal (priced at £35) or should it be an original Nissan spring (over £100)? Read more
I'm self employed these days and have a Cit Dispatch van. Front right spring broke when vehicle only 4 years old and 40k. I changed the broken spring myself (using an OE replacement). The vehicle is now 10 years old and 80k up. No problems with th other side.

You'll need more than just the pipes. Bound to be a few bits and pieces, not to mention fresh fluid.
TBH, for what they are charging you I don't think it's even worth getting the jack out.
