After a minor shunt into the car in front at 15 mph max, the car was driveable and seemed OK, but 50 miles later smoke poured from bonnet due to oil spraying onto exhaust. Vehicle trucked to insurer's repairers who simply cannot trace the oil leak. Oil was 1/2 full on dipstick, but car serviced 8 weeks earlier. Engine steam cleaned and test run but still no signs of leak. Compression test OK so not head gasket. No oil pump as petrol. Repairers expect me to take back the vehicle and hope for the best, but once I sign off the repair as OK then if the leak recurs I will be responsible. I do not believe the oil leak was not connected with the shunt. Any ideas as to the cause/source of this leak? Read more

I've just had the first service completed by my local VW dealer. When we purchased the Tiguan I took out a servicing plan so when the service was due I simply booked it in and handed over the keys on the day. Picking up was easy and no money exhanged hands.
I notice now that the service booked has been completed but the section on bodywork checks has not. Is this not covered under the service? Is there an additional sum due to get this work covered? What are the implications of not getting this work done and why didn't the dealership bring it to my attention (or did they simply miss something)? Read more
The implication of missing stamps is that any claim for body-perforation, ie rust, will be declined.
I've called VW head office (I want to get my facts straight before contacing the dealer directly about this) and they told me that in all probability that check was done but the book not stamped. They also said in any event VW would honor any future claims.......
My air con is not working I cannot find which fuse is on this circuit any ideas please re this and any other common problems with air con on this model Read more
Unlikely to be a fuse, more likely to be something more involved;Low gas pressure, sensor fault,or compressor problems are all common failures on VAG models.hth
i noticed a strong smell of petrol at the rear of the car, took car to my local garage
he thought it maybe the breather pipe, but no such luck it's the actual fuel tank that is leaking, he reckons a new one from vauxhall is between £200 + £300, he advised me to try and find a second hand one, which i've done it's a used one with 1 months warranty as i'm currently unemployed this is really my only option, with p + p, vat it totals £48.00 but it depends on how much labour he's going to charge me? are second hand tanks ok to use? You've put together a fantastic post here! If any of your readers are regular visitors to France, or are planning a longer journey through the country, they might be interested in the Liber-T tag from Sanef Tolling. The tag enables UK motorists to use the automatic telepeage lanes, which have previously been reserved for French residents. Find out more here: https://www.saneftolling.co.uk

hello all, I'm an expat living in Oman, looking at merc avantgarde 57K (verified) clicks one owner import from japan, nice red looks lovely, think it is a 4.2 litre engine,
know nothing about these cars but love it, don't wanto be sucked in though so any advice?... Read more
You'll get better advice from a MB owners forum, but assuming it is the W210 then it should be a very good car.
The usual rust problems that caused serious issues for that model shouldn't be a problem with a Japanese import going into Oman....

You do not need oil pumps in modern cars they are just a hindrence.
Back to the oil leak perhaps an external oil pipe union or pin hole in pipe.
