After two years of not receiving a road tax reminder in the post I called the DVLA who told me that a VIC marker had been placed on the vehicle record and that this must have been done by an insurance company writing off the vehicle. They were unable (or unwilling) to tell me which insurance company had done this or when. I have had no notification about this which makes me wonder if someone has cloned the car and changed the address details and then the cloned car has been written off.

The weird thing is that I have been able to take out insurance on the vehicle in the last two years with no problems. Surely if there was a flag on it I couldn't have done this ?

Is my only option to pay £41 for an identity check ? Has anyone been in a similar situation and how did you sort it out ?
