Hello,
I have taken my car to Mr clutch it was there for two days I got the clutch replaced, an oil leak sorted, a tyre replaced and the bults on 4 tyres as well as and MOT done. The whole service costing nearly £600.... Read more
We purchased a MINI Coupe Cooper S in June 2012. What a mistake. They purport to be a premium brand but our experience contradicts this.
After two days of battery died. Not a flat battery but a faulty battery which left us stranded. After a week the hatch was failing to close properly. After six weeks and 800 miles the wipers failed. Paintwork faults then found around the hatch edges. From day one the car rattled, sqeaked, thumped and bumped. All emanating from the rear end. Several visits back to the dealer, Sytner of Coventry, corrected the earlier the issues but the noises steadily got worse.... Read more
Greetings.
I've recently changed the valve cover gasket on this car which had cracked and found the spark plugs on 3 and 4 swimming. I know about the problem regarding the washers leaking onto the valve cover, but after fully drying the head, plugs and leads, this car ran like a sewing machine for 5 or so minutes then started to misfire. I removed No.3 lead and found water in this side again. It does look as though the core plug is leaking. Are these normal press fit core plugs or are they threaded?... Read more
Hi, my tyre pressure monitor light on dash keeps coming on but the tyre pressures are ok. All that has changed is that I have put a full set of new tires on has anyone ever come across this problem or do you think it's just a coincidence and I've got another problem, look forward to hearing your reply's. Oh well, from what I've read here and else where there doesn't seem to be a single reliable tyre pressure monitor system out there. This flabbergasts me, looks like these are just an unreliable optional extra on most cars. Thanks for the reply's. I will just disable mine even though it is a great tool for my very low profile tires which you can't tell the difference unless they are totally flat.
PS slight loss of grip does not set these off it has to be for a certain length of time to register but don't know how long, but I have known mine to go off on a long stretch of road which has had two types of road surface and the near side wheels have been on one surface and the offside on the other. So they must be pretty sensitive. Thanks anyway it everyone !!!!
I recently had the clutch and slave cylinder (and transmission fluid and speed sensor) replaced in my 2001 Focus 1.8 Zetec. It's done 175k.
After picking it up, I drove it for about 100 miles, then stopped for a couple of hours. When I started again, I had trouble getting the gear stick far enough across to get the car into first or second - there was resistance, like maybe one of the cables had snagged. I pushed a bit harder a couple of times and eventually it was fine.... Read more
Some helpful suggestions, thank you all - I'll look into them :-)
Hello,
I just a saw an interesting Mazda 6 2.2D SL 185bhp, 59 plate, for £6000, however it has 130.000 miles, that is like 32K per year. The interior seems to be in pretty good condition and the exterior as well. I am aware that this is a good engine (hopefully without the epic DPF failures as the previous owner drove for a loooong time, so I assumed all the soot is cleaned up,lol). The other car that I have in mind is a 2005 BMW 525D SE 100K miles, they are both the same price, I would like to know your opinion.... Walk away from this one and look for an estate now.

My left headlight seems to have failed, and I wonder if anybody could advise on the best way to proceed.... Read more
If the wedgie 5w bulbs are hard to change, then it's worth while seeking out the more expensive long life ones (Halfords do have one type). I've had a pair in for well over 18 months now and I've had cheaper ones that don't last 12 months. I once boght a pair which lasted less than three weeks one winter - they went black and blew, as they say.
Hi I hope you can help me. I have a Mazda 6 2007 Diesel (DPF) estate and I have recently noticed a oil leak from the cam cover the Gasket seems okay. I think it might be due to pressure in the cam cover how do I check the engine breather (PCV) is working correctly.
Many Thanks Alan. Read more
Just follow the breather hose back from where it joins the air intake until you come to a junction. The valve will be in the housing.

To be fair to the Rover R65 gearbox (actually a Rover enhanced PSA gearbox) was never designed to take the load the big, heavy and relatively torquey MINI put out. It was supposed to be a small lightweight gearbox for small lightweight cars!
