My 2006 1.6 hdi Picasso has done 96000 miles and a high pitched whine has just started coming from somewhere at the rear. It occurrs when the key is turned to the first position and also when the ignition is turned on and when the engine is running. I can't pinpoint where the sound is coming from. My local garage think that it might be that the diesel additive has run out but I got the impression that they weren't really sure. I've never heard of "diesel additive". There are no warning lights on. Does anyone have any ideas ???????

I couldn't pinpoint where the noise was coming from but I wasn't convinced it was the tank area....
Last year on July I gave my car to my friend to drive as i was feeling ill and he assured me that he was insured with his insurance. But unfortunalately he was involved in an accident with damages to both cars and it turned out after that he was not insured at all afterall.
I have read similar threads here ragarding this matter however my one is a bit different. I beleive the insurance company involved on the accident was the same company i am with and on march they sent out a letter to my friend to claim the outlay of money which is in 1000's. To make matter more complicated he does not live on this country. However he did email them mentioning his current situation and the amount of money he was willing to pay (half the amount). However since then the solicitors have not replied back to this email and now i receive a letter today claiming the same amount of money from me. ... Read more

Many thanks, RT. You learn something every day!
Your last few words probably explain why the OP wants a dump valve - but he needs to check before spending any money whether it would have the desired effect on a diesel.

We picked up this one year old V60 in March from Stoneacre Volvo Lincoln. The car was immaculate having been a Volvo staff car with 11676 miles on the clock.
3 months of trouble free motoring followed locally in South East London and on Motorways. Our V60 was comfortable, quiet and both of us enjoyed the massive power under our right toe for overtaking.... Read more
Parkside took the tailgate to pieces and reassembled it. They said it could have been dust on the terminals. Believe that if you will.
Anyway the tailgate, and the rest of the car have worked perfectly since.
I really like the car. Its a D5 but I am only getting about 38 mpg with a mixture of urban driving and motorways.
Never the less the car answers our needs.
I'm hoping that someone can help me because my wife is pretty furious with me right now.
I changed a broken rear light (just the lens, not the electrics) on her MK1 clio this morning and it looks like I've managed to do some damage in the process.... Read more
You say that the car is eletrically dead, totally. It's got to be the battery. Did you disconnect it before you started playing with the light wiring? Is it properly connected now. Disconnect it. Check there is power in it. Reconnect it securely with all the wires. There are two big fat leads to the positive terminal.
The engine fuse box is in the scuttle under the boot lid under a plastic flap that accesses the wiper washer reservoir....
I have just bought a twin pack of Barracuda (now being renamed Roofrush) carriers. I cannot fathom how the rear mounting plate should be fitted. I can only get it to the start poit of fitting (as shown in the diagrammatic instructions - see) but that means the two plastic lugs stick up in the hole in the middle of the load plate - hence it will not slide backwards. Most diagrams in the instructions and many photos on web (eg www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/accessories/car-ra3) show it further back so I'm still missing something.
I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give. Read more
Hi there - Sorry I can't advise you but if the racks you have don't work for you and you're able to exchange them at the retailer you bought them from, I can strongly recommend these -
