Having collected this car yesterday (sat) from the trader, on driving home (30 miles) I have noticed a judder/vibration in the brake pedal when braking at speeds 30mph+.

The car had ben through the garage that morning to have a rear coil replaced, service, and MOT. ... Read more

My car did this when I hadn't used it for a couple of months but it soon cleared when I had put some miles on it. Rusty discs in my case.

I was involved in a small accident today, I drove into the back of another car causing minimal damage, his bumper popped off and my number plate is cracked. We swapped details and he said he would contact me on Monday to see if we should settle without involving insurance companies but I'm wondering whether I should still inform my insurance? I don't want any surprises but at the same time I don't want my insurance company to start working on something they don't need to. Read more

"...I'm wondering whether I should still inform my insurance?"

Yes. Almost without exception, there will be something in the small print which obliges you to inform them of any accident, whether or not a claim is involved.

I have a Vauxhall Vivaro 06 1.9 diesel, it has been to several garages & is still coming up with 1815 Inlet air / Boost pressure Circuit fault, it has had the injectors wiring redone due to rubbing through, a new Boost Pressure Soleniod (although only one & someone said it has 2?) a new EGR. The glow/mangement light comes on and van loses power as soon as you want power ! (seems to be anything above 2500rpm or 70mph) it also wont rev up for the first 10 secs or so when you start it (but hey I can cope with this but not sure if part of it) as a lone female travelling to dog shows in the early hours of the morning this is causing me some real concerns :( can someone pls give me some ideas before I allow the garage to throw more money away for me!! .Many thanks Read more

When buying from a dealer do you have any protection? I've recently brought a used VXL astra from an approved VXL dealer. In less than a day of having the vehicle repairs are required and despite calling the dealership they are failing to return my calls. I am also now suspicious that despite there reassurance the vehicle is not clean and there could be outstanding finance on the vehicle. Where do I stand legally? Can I return the vehicle and obtain a full refund under the sales of goods act? And under false information? Surely if they have informed me that the vehicle is clean and clear and it's not this is an act of fraud? Can you please advise on my rights? Read more

You don't detail what those repairs required are, but inder SOGA the onus is on the dealer to prove that the faults were not present at the time of purchase.

So in theory you would have a case....

HI,

I have a 2010 Focus 2.0 TDci (136ps) Titanium with 31k on the clock.

It's started hesitating/misfiring when doing between 35/40 in 4th gear. You can feel it through the drivetrain & the transmission does not like it at all. Also does it at other speeds in other gears.

The car has just run out of warranty and had it's 30k service by Ford about 6 weeks ago.

It was down to half a tank of fuel so - I've just brimmed it with fuel from another garage to see if it was maybe a dodgy batch of fuel - but didn't make any difference at all.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks - Rob Read more

Possible injector blockage or contamination? Was diagnosed by Ford as causing jerky running of my old Focus 1.8TDCi. You could try running some injector cleaner through with the odd high-revs blast through the gears. I would have thought though that a blocked injector would affect running at all speeds and not just one particular speed/gear.

A dirty / sticky EGR valve is another possible cause of hesitant running. You could take a look inside and check how much soot/oil build-up there is and whether or not the valve opens and closes smoothly....

I parked my car in a car park and the driver in the next car dented my door when they opened their door without looking; I was in my car at the time. They admitted fault and said to let them know how much it would cost to repair as they didn't want to go through insurance. I got a quote and told the other driver, who said they would send a cheque but hasn't.... Read more

Hi, I have a 2002 1.6 model which is recently suffering from a problem where it misifres for a couple of seconds mainly after applying throttle after a period of overrun. It is more noticable in top gear under 2000 rpm at 40-50 mph road speed. It picks up after and it is not a typical failed ignition type of stutter but more of a splutter which can be felt and impeded smooth progress. It also can appear (but not often) at lower speeds and lower gears again in the same rev range with low-mid throttle application. The car drives fine 99% of the time and is quite willing. I havent notice any drop in fuel or oil consumption.

.I have checked the air filter, intake box and flexi intake pipe for signs of leaks and read the codes of which none show. I guess it could be the spark plugs and leads but I thought i would check here for expert advice on what to try first.... Read more

anyone? Fyi it has 2 coils on top of plug serving one cylinder with a single lead serving each other cylinder.

I'm looking for a large family estate with a budget of under £12K. It needs to accomodate the wife and 3 children plus associated luggage. I'd like the car to handle well and not be too sluggish as I'm currently driving a 03 Mondeo hatch 2L 136PSI TDCi I'd ideally like to buy 2 to 3 years old with max of 60,000 on the clock.

I was looking at either a Mazda 6 or Mondeo diesel but I'm concerned about the DPF. Although I do around 12,000 miles per year. My daily commute is only 4.5 miles extended to 9 miles if a school/nursery drop off is involved. Am I right to be concerned about likely DPF problems.... Read more
