I'm looking at getting a 2nd hand Mitsubishi Colt privately but noticed a high pitched whine/whistle coming from the central display on the dashboard. It appears as soon as the ignition is on, and remains on with the engine. You can hear it over the engine whilst you're driving along! All 3 of us could hear it so it's not just me. The owners says it's done it from new, but it's not something I could tolerate. I found a post about the identical problem here but no solution was found:

Yeah, thousands of overpriced ones. You have no idea how much dealers charge for decent superminis and the discrepancy between private sales. Problem is, there's not that many private sales about.

My Galaxy loses power particularly when going up hill. Rarely will the power come back on it's own. To restore power I usually have to restart the engine but this i not a permanent cure. I also have a problem with the cruise control in that it does not always engage. What are the possible answers to these problems and could they be linked? Read more

Is my town worse than most or have I a complex? road humps which lorries and buses etc roar over but wreck car suspensions, plenty of priority to oncoming vehicles in the middle of nowhere, police in the revenue camera vans lurking. One road has been narrowed to make a wide cycle path which I've never seen a bike on. The A30 which once was one of Britains major arteries has more lanes whited out than open. Potholes multiply like rabbits, whitre lines are getting more faded little by little, many roads closed altogether.... Read more

Like so many "in power", the organisation seems to take over, and Council staff rarely focus on the vote, so most are hardly even obliged to pay attention to their paymasters - that's us! Well, indirectly, as democracy is diluted by the money coming from HMG (80%) from our taxes.

Imagine if they were to pubish minutes of road meetings, agendas etc!!...

Today I got my first parking ticket for over ten years. I returned to my car a few minutes late because of circumstances outside my control. OK technically I was in the wrong but what annoys me is that we have three “pay and display” car parks. Out local “Civil Enforcement Officers”, as they are now called, lurk around these trying to catch people who like myself or those who have parked incorrectly even if the car park is 90% empty and about to close. However if you walk a hundred yards to the High Street cars can be parked illegally/dangerously, able bodied people parked in disabled bays, etc. and these never seem to be booked. Is it not time we went back to proper “Parking Wardens” and away from this “Revenue Collector” mentality?

After further research I suspect that I have no option but to pay. However my research has revealed that the number of tickets issued per warden/officer/”your choice” jumped by 500% when the parking management was outsourced to NCP. Rather obvious where the priorities now are!

They take 5-10 minutes a side to change - easy-peasy job. Jacking the car up takes as long as changing them!

I contacted you before but failed to make clear that the car is less than 3 years old and owned from new. I would be grateful to know what sort of driving style could lead to catastriphic clutch failure after only 11300 miles. The pattern of driving is no different from previous cars with similar annual low mileage. I always thought that low mileage was a selling point for used cars

Until you remove the clutch and flywheel and have it independantly checked you will not know what caused the problem anything else is only supposition.

Hello. Any advice welcome. My honda crv, 07 plate, 38,000 miles, written off by insurers. I am now waiting for their value. I paid £9K about 8 months ago. What do you suggest I do if they value the car much less, let's say £6K? How do I argue for them to revalue upwards? Thanks. Read more

Is it your own insurance company who are seeking to write your car off?

If not, and it's the third party's, then they have no authority to do so, unless you are in agreement with this being done....
