Dear Forum,

11 days ago I purchased a car from a Car Dealer who told me over the phone that the car had 2 issues, namely scratches and the drivers door handle had brocken on the inside.... Read more

Possibly - but why is the dealer claiming £200 for repairs to faults that were there when the car was sold?

Presumably the dealer is cliaming that either the faults were not significant enough that he should be responsible for them or the buyer was aware of them at the point of purchase....

Many thanks for assistance in pinpointing what could be the problem. Have advised daughter to get the car looked at sooner rather than later given that the car will be out of coolant - not something that she will have thought of.

Presumably no voltage reaching the starter solonoid. Just to check it run a wire from the battery and just touch it on the small terminal on the solonoid, it should turn the starter, if it does you have a problem somewhere between the battery and solonoid, possibly the ignition switch or the immobiliser.

If it doesn't turn the starter, either its faulty or there is no voltage on it due to a poor connection between it and the battery.

All dashboard information has disapeared - no spedometer, fuel gauge, nothing. Our Renault dealer says it is a known fault and their 'goodwill' price is £150, but we will loose infomation on mileage - is this correct? Read more

I'm observing the insurance claim car hire scam via a friend. She had parked her car in a restaurant car park while having lunch. An announcement was made, "Would the owner of car number..." etc go to the car park. Another woman had reversed her car into hers and scratched the valence. It wasn't much at all and my friend said that she would get her son to fix it, but the other woman played the 'good guy' and insisted that it go through the insurance company. Thus my friend has been driving around in an almost new hire car for a month now - all for a scratch that her son could have fixed in a few minutes.

I've got far worse 'supermarket' dings on my car and prefer not to have the bother.... Read more

It should only take 4-5 working days, so the other side will probably challenge a month of hire, especially for cosmetic damage where the repairer should have got all their ducks in-line before booking the car in.

Apologies if this topic has been discussed before but can anyone advise what happens to all the old & dirty oil from the nation's sumps after being drained? Is there a difference between mineral and synthetis oil?
