Had my van serviced today at the main dealers.

There were three full cans of "pop" in the passenger door pocket when I left it this morning, but only two when I collected it later this afternoon, (I did not notice until I got home).... Read more

What do you expect? Citroen are mostly peasants and communists. Your CD is their CD etc.

Hi all,

I've got a 1998 Volvo V40 and I'm thinking of upgrading the headlight bulbs to these newer "90% brighter" halogen bulbs. The wife has has been complaining the ours barely appear to be on at all in comparison to a lot of cars these days. I agree with her. Ours are like an old torch with weak batteries in comparison with other cars. Can't see much at all on unlit roads without using the main beams. (The car passed its MOT last month and and the weight vs headlight height switch is set correctly)... Read more

It's why drls are required now (but with all cars lit the improvemt won't be 50% I suspect).

No, it's what economists call a 'zero-sum game' situation. Your advantage only exists because other people don't drive with them on all the time.

Hi Nikki .. it takes exactly 1 minuite to do a pressure test on the car .. which will indicate wether the head has gone or not ... the normal classic cases are water mixing with oil and vice versa ... And if either the recovey bloke .. or garage dealer had taken the cap off the oil filler and it looked like coffee on the lid then it would be a sure sign the head was gone .. and this normally means the water is going through the exhaust and out the rear of the car .. the other way is . the oil is going through the waterways and the header tank is normally gunged up .. so three simple ways for the dealer to know the head was gone before you bought it ... or is gone now . and in fact now that i have told you of two of them .. you could do them yourself .. and let him think you are not an idiot .... I say this because i have my own car repair garage/sales/recovery ... and it boils me when i hear of these back street cowboys giving all us good natured ones a bad name and ripping Females off .. just for a few quid .. which you have probably spent a while saving ... just aswell you can't swear on these sites as i would throw my real feeling out towards theese guys ... also Nikki .. pull the dipstick out and see what colour that is .. if it is the same coffee sort of colour then it is a 100% dead cert ... and don't let him fob you off with anything else

All my cars go out with 12 months mot .. a full service ... i don't put warranties on mine .. because they are a con .. and not worth the paper they are written on ... but i will honour any deal i make with any of my customers ... even if cars have written in the windoe ...SOLD AS SEEN ...

The SMMT new car registrations for 2012 makes for some interesting reading.

Ford 281,917 (up 6.03% compared to 2011); Vauxhall 232,255 (down 1.05%); VW 183,098 (up 2.12%).... Read more

Hi. To dismantle the rear caliper hand brake section I need to remove a pentagonal nut.

Apparently the same caliper is fitted to a 2003/4 mondeo estate. Does anyone know what size socket is required? On ebay it is possible to get 5 point sockets for Bendix brakes but I believe that mine are Bosch.... Read more

Information correction - I should have said I used Shell FuelSave + Millers Diesel Power Ecomax (normal strength) verses Shell V-power.

I have found there is a small fuel economy advantage when adding Millers to Shell FuelSave.

I don't use Millers with Shell V-power.

Let us know how you get on sneekes.

Hi

I've had a little leak in the hydraulic system for a while now and had topped it up with a couple of litres of LDS, but now I'm getting a knocking from under the car. It's not the exhaust as we've had that checked and it's solid, so I'm assuming it's related to my leaking fluid.... Read more

The previous poster is correct.

Down a steep hill the car will select a low gear to allow engine braking, sometimes with quite a few revs on....

Hi, new poster here but wanted some advice. Just went out to buy some milk and eggs for the morning and was surprised to see a car parked virtually on the bumper of my car (about 4 inches away) on the street outside my home on closer inspection there's a slight dent to the trim above my bumper and a scuff on the car that had parked so close.

The dent wasn't there when I used the car this afternoon. I took a few pictures on my phone and have left a note for the driver of the other car with my name and phone number explaining what must have happened and asking them to contact me or I'll contact the police.... Read more

Even a forward-facing dash-cam fitted with sensors will register a bump outside of its field of vision, and put a time-stamp on it.

So the forward facing camera would record the moment of impact but in this instance since the impact was at the rear not record the actual incident....
