vw golf mk 6 - dsg - bishoprod

I have a 2012 ,1.4 petrol, 122BHP golf mk 6 DSG 7 speed with 3000 miles.

When driving down a steep hill, braking and foot off the accelerator the DSG drops into

3rd or 4th gear and the engine jumps up to 4500 revs, and stays in the lower gear, often for several minutes, or until I accelerate again. even if the speed is 40-50 mph.

I used to drive a diesel DSG and this never happened.

Is this normal?

Driving normally the DSG is in 7th gear at below these speeds.

The gearbox assumes that you want engine braking and is changing down accordingly. You should be able to change the settings eg 'sport' or 'eco', but engine braking helps to heat up the oil, so it is no bad thing-unless you don't want to slow down anyway!

The previous poster is correct.

Down a steep hill the car will select a low gear to allow engine braking, sometimes with quite a few revs on.

Note that if you touch the throttle, the dsg will assume you now want to accelerate & select a higher gear, while still going down the same hill.
