Hi folks,
One of my neighbours backed into my C-max when parking his truck last night, leaving the inevitable dent and loss of paint.... Read more
After a software 'upgrade' in May 2011 I lost the road speed indication feature from the Satnav. For me the most useful feature of it, since it does not have full postal address either. It was suggested at the time that another imminent 'upgrade' might restore the feature, however after two 'upgrades' and the recent replacement of the media screen, nothing has changed. The indication has not disappeared completely, it appears intermittently, most often on motorways (just where you need it). Navteq tell me it is not a maps software issue and the indication should be there if selected. Hyundai 'technical' support have been patronising at best, and incompetent at worst, telling me that 'upgrades' sometimes remove features, and that this is perhaps the case here-in other words tough luck go away. The dealer has been very understanding, but it appears they are getting the same technical support as I have had. Before anyone suggests it, yes it has been selected in the menu! Does anyone have any ideas or advice? Read more
So, I've found a Sloda Fabia. Looks pretty good, lots of service history including invoices. 2004 model 90k miles. Reasonably priced, I'm test driving it towmorrow.
However, the guys only owned it for a few months and his reason for selling is he needs something bigger. Is it even worth going to look?... Read more
It'll be a decent enough car for someone, but I like my cars, and like to keep them for many years. So I wouldn't touch this one with a barge pole.
I have a friend who bought a used car from a large national chain a bit back, noticed the 1st service had not been done/documented properly, (should have been done before delivery!) phoned, e-mailed, and was sent a cheque for the cost of 1st service. He is absolutely flabbergasted! Read more
The service was done within days of the end of the 1st year, I know that, AND, because of previous issues with these lovely people, my trustworthy friend, does not want to name (praise or shame) they are however pretty close to your dealers avant! However they are on the path to redemption.
Hi there!
I am (probably) about to buy a 2008 1.6 FSI and have heard things about valves needing replacing and the fuel type used.... Read more
There was another genuine problem back in the early 90s when standard fuel often contained a lot of sulphur. This was corrosive to Nikasil cylinder bores and quite a few engines had to be replaced because of it.
But this has long since been sorted.
hi all. i have been having an issue with my car, firstly just before xmas (during the cold snap) the incar heater system packed up. or at least it was working intermitently. it finally gave up and after much trawling of the internet my son and i tried to remove the blower motor as most of the advice about this issue was pointing to that. we couldnt remove it having struggled to get most of the dash off. anyway we rang a friend who advised us that just above the clutch there is a panel remove it and there is a green connector with wires, we literally just fiddled with this and hey presto the fan kicked into life, unfortunatley only for one day then it became intermittent again. no amount of fiddling with these wires kicks it in anymore. just after xmas i noticed that the temp gauge was too hot, i checked the water and it was empty, so i filled it up and used the car for the day.on my return i checked it again and it was empty again. i filled it up and checked for rad leaks etc but cannot see any sign of leaks. the car was used for a week like this having to top up the water at regular intervals. tonight on driving it the temperature gauge was too hot despite the tank being full of water. in fact the gauge was behaving quite erraticly. I am no expert but i checked the oil for tell tail signs of head gasket issues but no brown gunk is present. has anyone got any thoughts on what might be the issue? Thanks in advance. Read more
think i put this in wrong forum admin, apologies.
My 2004 6-speed mondeo has just started popping ouf third when slowing but is ok when accelerating. Is this a 'linkage' problem or an expensive syncro replacement please? Read more
This is usually due to wear in the gearbox - gear teeth are not straight cut so there is an axial thrust which will tend to push out of engagement on overrun and into engagement on acceleration, or vice versa.
I am looking at a couple of Audi Tts this weekend. They are mainly on 2008/09 plates, with between 17k&35k on the clock. What sort of price should I be aiming for? 2 are private, a couple are at a dealer , and a local garage has said they would consider doing the legwork with another private sale, giving me a warranty etc.
Any tips greatly appreciated ! Read more
Could anyone please point me in the direction of a mower forum which has plenty of current activity?
I am trying to acertain what is acceptable end-float and lateral play for the half-shafts on an MTD 504 ride-on mower.... Read more
Thanks, yeah I did that and haven`t had much luck, even joined a top forum but no technical info forthcoming.
This axle works well and someone wants it but the halfshaft endfloat and lateral play would be alarming on a car etc but maybe they`re normal for this ride-on mower? That`s why I`m after the w/shop spec on these components....
Once upon a time, somebody invented mobile phones. Then people used to drive while yakking. This was then deemed to be a Bad Thing, and them in charge decided to make it illegal.
Then people decided that it was better to send each other text messages, so that they could not be seen yakking. All the had to do was to keep the mobile below the window line, thus ensuring that their attention was not on the road, but on their silly toy which was somewhere down near groin level.... Read more
I particularly despise seeing a parent in a Range Rover or the like, driving with one hand and using the other to clamp a mobile to their ear, when they have children in the back.
9 times out of 10 it's a woman as well, which no doubt annoys you even more.

I check every year and usually switch insurer each time - this one has come out cheapest for the last 4 years but it's through an affinity scheme which might also make a difference....
