Hi,
I'm in the market for a new motor and considering a number of options. My budget is about £7000. I've thought about some more sensible options like a Focus or Civic, but I've also been batting around the idea of an older 3-series. I've done a fair bit of reading up on the internet and to be honest I'm a bit twitchy about some of the common problems that seem to crop up on older models. I happened to see an advert for a local dealer (Evans Halshaw in Portsmouth, if that helps) offering the vehicle in the subject line - it looks like it's been driven pretty heavily over the last 6 years but is at least not as old as some of those I'm looking at.
I'm in the process of trying to find out ownership / service details as these weren't included in the post on their website but was wondering if anyone had any initial thoughts or suggestions...
Thanks in advance! Read more
I wouldnt, unless its had the turbo, clutch, flywheel, intake manifold, suspension bushes, dampers, glowplugs etc replaced. You are looking at a large bill for any one of those individually, and if 2 crop up together, wow....
Why not look at a petrol model which is a slightly safer investment for what still amounts to a lot of money?...
I open up for a new post and the box is filled with some ccarp about TECHNICAL DATA and I can't see what I've written.

Sorry - I've no idea what this is - has anyone else had anything similar?
I have problem locking my car, but no problem opening or starting the car, using the card key. Please advice on how to solve the problem Read more
Does it happen with both key cards if its just one its the card itself the switches are notorious for failing there is a site on ebay that repairs them or you can do it yourself.
Does that mean all new stock will sold off cheaply like mg rover Read more
Oh what a tangled web we weave! What a sorry story we have in this country. Useless politicians, unions, managment and investors.

Hi all I'm Gordon, new to this site and trading in my current Lexus IS200 for something more economical and family friendly due to a new arrival :)
I'm due to pick up my new used Passat 2.0 TDI R Line 140 on a 59 plate on Monday from my local friendly car supermarket. The car has done 64k I queried when Cambelt change was due and I was told 120k
I've researched everywhere on line and can't find any info for this model but the general feeling is 60-80k
Can anyone confirm 120k or am I being spun a line?
Any advise appreciated
Cheers Gordon Read more
You should ask for it to be changed along with all ancillary equipment before you collect it.

Evening All,
I bring you a tale of festive woe, and insurance company incompetence.... Read more
Thanks to both of you for your replies. It transpires that it was indeed an error on the CUE database. Cooperative have accepted that it was wrong and apparently are changing it, though I don't know how long this it likely to take, any thoughts?
My new insurers are aware and I just need to email them a copy of the letter provided to me by the Coop. Hopefully all sorted,...
Hi all, Wow thanks for the info about the rover, we have a soft spot for the rover as over the years thats all we drove and they have always been reliable so thats why thinking of getting a 75 as there are loads out there, we were thinking of spending between £1,500 and £2000 reading the views still not sure wheather petrol or diesel we have no need for speed just a nice and comfortable drive as our speed days are well and truly behind us.
Dont know if we can nail the right 75 with so many to choose from any thoughts, thanks for the replies it has certainely got us thinking any more info would be brilliant ... Read more
You may find a good 75, but what most of us are saying in this and the other thread is that if you consider other makes as well you increase your chances of success. And parts supply, although OK at the moment, could get worse with time, particularly body parts if you have a prang.
Personally I was always put off the 75 by the brown/beige colour combination of the dasboard and instruments, which made me think of a 1940s parlour: the sort that was never used unless Great-Aunt Bertha came to stay, or there was a death in the family (or both)....

Good car. I'd prefer it without a tractor engine but each to their own.
