I was considering buying one of those liquid products that you inject into tyres via the valve inlet thereby sealing any punctures that may occurr.

The question is do they work and are there any disadvantages? Read more

Thanks for those replies. I was nearly put off by the lack of a spare, however I do like the car in general. It is surprising how many cars are now sold without a spare. They do provide a bottle of gunge and a tyre compressor to use when you have had a puncture, no use for serious damage to tread or sidewalls of course, that will mean roadside assistance and tow to a tyre supplier.

The stuff I am considering is called Ultraseal (i think) you put it in the tyre and when a puncture occurs it seals the hole. You would not know that you have had a puncture....

has anyone had a problem with the electronic handbreak releasing by itself when starting, if you are on a gradient, causing the car to roll downhill, unless you are looking outside you are unaware this has happened. Read more

Both 'deisel' (diesel) and 'break' (brake) in one sentence, is that a record?

Surely if you're 'starting off' you should be looking outside and know the car is moving? I presume it's got some hillholder device that releases the handbrake as the car pulls away....

Hi, is there anybody out there that has ever used a hand held DIY diagnostic tool on a 2003 mercedes diesel. I'm looking for one but I don't want to spend money on something that doesn't work. The car has the OBD 16 pin socket but I'm not sure what protocol it is. Also where can I find information about sensor positions?

Does anyone know where the horn on a Polo of 2001 year is? Mine has stopped working and the fuse is fine but I can't locate the horn in the engine bay.

Also, when driving at night none of my heating controls are illuminated. Is this how they are or should there be some form of lighting so I can see which control is which? My rear view deminster and AC buttons are illuminated at night so it's strange that the heating controls are not. Read more

The lack of heater illumination is likely to be the very small 1.2w wire ended capless bulb that is located behind the centre control. Use a pair of cushioned jaw grips to pull this off and then a short length of 5-mm fuel pipe needs to be pushed over the top of the bulb and that will then allow you to pull it out. A new bulb from VW is their part number N 017 751 2 and they cost about £1.60. The horn is on a bracket behind the front bumper under the car and has constant ignition live from fuse 19 on a black yellow wire so make sure the voltage is present.
