vauxhall meriva 1700 deisel - handbreak - jacktglover

has anyone had a problem with the electronic handbreak releasing by itself when starting, if you are on a gradient, causing the car to roll downhill, unless you are looking outside you are unaware this has happened.

Isn't that what it's supposed to do?

Have you read the owner's handbook?

Both 'deisel' (diesel) and 'break' (brake) in one sentence, is that a record?

Surely if you're 'starting off' you should be looking outside and know the car is moving? I presume it's got some hillholder device that releases the handbrake as the car pulls away.

Mind I don't like weird handbrakes and can see no reason for car makers to fiddle with the design of something that's worked fine for more than the 46 years I've been driving. It was also on a Vauxhall that I first encountered the fiddled with indicator stalk about 10 years ago. I still can't get them to work properly sometimes and don't understand why they altered them.
