Went to look at a 53 plate Volvo V70 2.7 D5 auto today - it's done 178k but has a full volvo service history and only one owner from new. Very nice condition and well looked after
When we test drove it there seemed to be a slight vibration felt through the passenger footwell which felt more like a wobble when I accelerated hard. It was almost as if the tyre was out of shape if that makes sense. There wasn't any movement in the steering wheel though so pretty sure it wasn't wheel balancing
It felt like the wheel itself was bent or maybe an engine mount gone and as we accelerated it was wobbling on the passenger side. Hard to describe really
I don't want to lose it if its something minor but also don't want to end up with a massive bill if its something to do with steering, suspension etc.
It definitely got more distinct the faster I went
Any ideas?
We managed to haggle him down by £400 to cover it needing a cambelt and service and have a bit of money left over for repairs if its something minor

You will have noticed that most garages now use an aerosol spray lubricant for hinges, and bonnet and tailgate locks. This is recognisable by the white foam deposit it leaves.
Less than 10% of the spray reaches the bearing surfaces with the remainder covering adjacent panels or even trim. It attracts dirt.... Read more

Trouble there is that when your horse drops dead at the side of the road, you can't call the AA out to fix it....
i've just got a xantia 1.9 terbo desil and its haveing trouble starting on a morning after heating glow plugs twice for 30 seconds it still takes 1/2 minutes off turning it over to get it started and it kicks out a cloud off white smoke after that it runs well and starts up wen warm not sure iff its plugs or injectors
Agreed, try pumping the primer before you try to start, if that doesn't help you probably have one or more failed glow plugs. A quick way to check is to connect a voltmeter between the glow plugs and earth, any connection will do, turn the key to the glow plug position and check the voltage, you should have 10-11 volts for about 15-20 seconds, if it is nearer 12v you have one or more glow plugs failed.

I'm interested in your thoughts/experiences; I'm after a tidy convertible for around 3.5k-ish. I've pretty much narrowed it down to either a folding hard top Megane or a Saab 9-3. Happy Polo - I had a 56 plate Megane CC 1.5 dci for 12 months and 16,000 niles and absolutely loved it.
Quiet, very comfortable and for me totally reliable. That engine was a peach too, with a usable power band, very long legged and super-economical GT / cruiser due to its high 6th gear....
Hi guys , I have a customers car here, I have replaced a n/s wheel cylinder so obviously throwing a set of shoes on too due to contamination,
Problem.
Fitted shoes, ran hbrake cable back, fitted drum, pressed brake to adjust and it is over adjusting (drum won't turn) line up stud hole and raise adjuster teardrop up to back off adjuster and all is well, press brake and it over adjusts again and locks up, can't be a lead/trail issue as shoes are specific fitmants to side .....any thoughts please.

Stripped and replaced spring kit and all is well one of top springs was significantly weaker than replacement. Not sure if I agree that was 100% to blame though.
The brakes on this audi intermittantly apply them selfs scanner says wiring problem. I'm just wondering has any 1 come across this problem any feedback greatly accepted Regards Mickeybo Read more
Some manufacturers have a diagnostic fault code that translates as "wiring fault".
In plain english this means; "something's wrong, but I haven't got a clue what it is". As spurious bus readings are often due to a dodgy connection somewhere........
I suppose i shouldn't be entirely surprised but seeing the recommendations re having a decent Warranty to save having to deal in a Direct fashion with garages I took one out with a well known company. i have had it for at least two years and although i have not made a claim felt comforted by the knowledge that I was in good hands.

Yes, sometimes they get it wrong, although probably not as often as politicians. WE mustn't judge them all bu one example of incompetence: in this particular case the DoT should have recognised that expert help was needed. There needs to be more partnership between the public and private sectors, particularly with regard to training.

Well the tyre on the front passenger side was flat when we got there but he said kids had let it down (and kindly put the valve back on)
He pumped it up but I think he put too much air in it cos his gauge didn't work properly and the tyre was absolutely rock hard. He thought that was causing the wobble but I wasn't so sure
They are quite new tyres but maybe if it keeps going flat it does have a problem
I would rather he was just honest and told us the issue so at least we could budget for it if we so wished. I didn't expect perfection from a car with so many miles on!
