.Absolute lunacy from the lib-dems as usual, It will destroy Aston Martin, Jaguar and Range Rover, Rolls Royce and Bentley in short order, to say nothing of the other smaller volume vehicle manufacturers and the component suppliers. Presumably the money earned from this wil pay unemployment benefits to all those out of work?

.Politics of envy or what?

Said it before and I'll say it again.

If you ever meet anyone who votes Lib/Lab/Con just punch them in the face. They are all as bad as each other. I make a point of voting at every opportunity but not for those clowns.

It's great isn't it? The Governent urges us all to buy more fuel efficient cars to "save the planet", knowing the day would always come when they would have to find ways of offsetting the money they were losing on VED and fuel taxes. The trouble is, they will not just offset their losses, they will use it as an opportunity to make more money off the motorist. Like decimalisation, it will be an overnight way to hike prices.

No just a bunch of incompetents playing politics.. Fortuantely the next GE is likely tol put them where they belong.

Another issue which must be causing wobbles in the treasury is the huge drop in fuel being purchased.

They're thick. That's what it is. Having a larger engine doesn't mean you are polluting more, and doing this would kill the few remaining British car manufacturers; Aston Martin must make a tonne for HM Govt.....

Politicians also don't get any training, yet making decisions that affect us all is quite a responsible job. We wouldn't accept the services of an untrained doctor / accountant / teacher etc. so it's quite wrong for us to be at the mercy of untrained politifcians. It all falls back on the Civil Service, who are at least trained by experience if not by professional qualifications.

There's something peculiarly unskilled about most Lib Dems - their leader in particular.

Libs will vanish back into obscurity at the next election, the most optimistic and lefty student won't be fooled by the timing of that crass hip apology for the tution fee lie.

Unfortunately when a country is going bankrupt there will be increasingly desperate tax grabs from whoever holds the reins....meanwhile Dave needs another few £billion for foreign aid that he recently promised, nu-nu-nu-nu-Lab have already spent the income from the 4g sell off, hope these 'affordable' homes meet the expectations of the entitled.

You'd think the electorate would by now have the sense to see beyond the three cheeks of the same backside, but in practice they'll vote in their stupor for those same cheeks...and then wonder why they have another set of incompetent europhile liberal lefty clones running the asylum for another 5 years...

...a sure diagnosis of national lunacy?....elect the same bunch of crooks, liars and incompetents each time and expect a different result, you couldn't make it up.

Give UKIP a try.

Look at the c o c k up they made of the rail franchise tender.

What do people want instead of democratically elected MP's. Do they want a dictatorship, do they want the army to take control.

We live in a democracy, its not perfect but its way better than many countries have, look at what is happeneing in the Middle East as an example.

If MP's actually represented their constituents instead of voting as their leaders told them so as to keep themselves in the running for even more lucrative posts, then it would be a democracy.

For example, a majority of the electorate don't want to have stupid rules imposed on them by EU officials, but all three parties give in time after time.

As it is, voting for any candidate of the three major parties is largely a waste of time.

With a few honourable exceptions, politicians (national and local) are now in it as a profitable career which requires none of the qualifications or skills which they wouild need for a proper, productive job.

The Lib Dems have shot themselves in both feet over the coalition so anything they say is now irrelevant - and I used to vote for them!.

However, legislation to deter people from buying thirsty cars is a good idea. Oil is a finite resource and now that good all-round family cars that can better 50 mpg are commonplace, the days of new gas guzzlers must surely be numbered.

If they ever bring in another scrappage scheme - it should only be for cars over 2 litres if replaced by ones of under 2 litres.

However, legislation to deter people from buying thirsty cars is a good idea.

No, it isn't.

Fuel duty already provides the incentive to conserve fuel whatever you drive and however far you drive and sill provides consumer choice.

VED is the worst tax ever divised. It doesn't alter driver behaviour. It doesn't encourage a driver to drive less.

Preversely, VED disproportionately hits low mileage drivers and subsidises high mileage users. Cheaper by the dozen approach to motoring taxes. That'll save finite resources! ...Oh wait.

Basing taxation on theoretical fuel economy is also pretty thick. Reps that sit on motorways all day buy company cars fitted with stop-start because it lowers their BIK tax. Stop start is useless on the motorway-but you're giving people a tax break for a non existant fuel saving.

I could go on and on...

When it comes to fuel consumption the only nut that needs adjusting is the one behind the wheel

Yes.. Civil Servants are professionals. They run bids for train contracts properly.. OOOPS.

It is totally nuts. How am I meant to tow a trailer full of cattle with a Toyota Yaris? Are they planning to bankrupt farmers etc who need a workhorse? Not that I am ever likely to buy a new vehicle... Sorry don't think UKIP is a credible alternative, any other suggestions appreciated though. I am a Tory usually but disgusted by HS2 and many other things.

Sheer - Motoring Madness - Avant

Yes, sometimes they get it wrong, although probably not as often as politicians. WE mustn't judge them all bu one example of incompetence: in this particular case the DoT should have recognised that expert help was needed. There needs to be more partnership between the public and private sectors, particularly with regard to training.
