I receied a Enforcement Notice from APCOA giving me the opportunity to pay a fine for stopping/dropping off in a non drop off area. I wrote to APCOA informing them I was not the driver at the time and gave the address of the driver. They have now written back to me telling me that although you were not the driver on the day of the Notice was issued as the vehicle is under your name therefore you are liable to make payment. is this correct? I dont see why I should make the payment on behalf of someone else and feel it is not my responsibility to chase payment for reimbursement if I pay it! What does the law state on this matter ..... clues please Read more

Well, well, well thanks for the bit about the Protection of Freedoms Act. i telephoned APCOA and told them I had already sent details of the driver at the time of the Enforcement Notice and that they were harrassing me and blackmailing me into paying someone elses fine. They have decided to drop this action against me. Lets see if they write to the driver who lives in Spain

Honestly if I have enough funds, I myself would buy cars that belongs to the top list, meaning the so-called luxury cars like Ferrari. It's not only the prestige that would make me buy it, I would love to drive myself one of the fastest cars in the world.

i am in the motor trade which is a family business and i am a named driver on my Dads motor trade insurance policy for motor trade purpose

i am in Essex and was driving a car which my dad was the owner and was stopped by a motorcycle police officer (i believe this was because the car showed as uninsured as it had not been entered on the MID register as he had bought the car less than 14 days prior and had not done this yet)

after the officer done his checks i was informed that my license had been revoked by the DVLA in 2009! this knocked me for six as i had no idea

he arrested me for no insurance and driving license and told me that the car would be seized, i explained to him that i had no idea of this and who i was and i was not someone abusing the law but he said he did not believe me and accused me of various things and basically was a total b******, i asked if my dad could come straight away and collect the car but he told me that the essex police policy was to seize and that was that,

i have never received any letters from the dvla about my license, when i phoned them the next day they said they would have sent 3 letters out and they may have been lost in the post...lol.

i posted my license back to dvla and after 9 days they inform me i have a clean license and i can drive again

i am now waiting for my court summons

i have spoke to dvla and courts and have arranged a meeting with them tomorrow, i have proof of my insurance which i had in 2007-2008 to prove i had insurance,...

does a 2006 ford smax have a timing belt or internal chain Read more

I thinking of buying an smax , been to look at a 1.8 tdci zetec today. The idle seemed to be quite lumpy (hunting) -but not eratic- and noisy but seemed fine when revved.I expect it to be a little noisy as its done 118000 miles. the test drive was great with engine quite responsive and powerful compared to my old 2.3 petrol galaxy... Does this engine have a timing belt and could this be the problem Read more

You've obviously detected some sort of problem. Why do you need to ask questions about buying a problematic car? I'd guess the previous owner's traded it in because it had an expensive problem. Go ahead and buy it if you feel the need to throw money at a problem....

Need help with buying a car... HELP!!

Hi guy, first post on here so please help me out...

Im starting a new job soon, and have decided my current car, just not going to be able to make the journey there and back every day. Therefore obviously I need to replace it.

Im looking for some suggestions in the region of £5000 to £8000 at a push...

Idealy:

No older than 09/08

Dont want a huge mileage since will be doing a lot of travel myself

needs to be relatively good on insurance (since only 19)

Cannot be a huge engine, probably no bigger than 1.6

Would prefer a deisel, but not too fussed

Obviously, goes without saying, needs to be reliable

Thanks in advance guys! Read more

Kia Ceed Diesel. 3 year old model with 4 year manufacturers warranty remaining will be about £7k. Decent spec, 1.6 diesel has no DPF, reliable but less of a concern as it has manufacturers warranty.

My 1993 ZX Volcane is still going like a train. The only problem is that the paintwork on horizontal surfaces is shot to blazes. It's a metallic green (ERTbR) with colour + lacquer layers. The lacquer has peeled badly but the colour is good with only one rust spot.

I would love to fix it myself as I had excellent results with cellulose paints years ago with very basic (non HVLP) spraying kit.... Read more

I signed for a new Kia at the end of April, but unfortunately the verbal delivery date I was given has been delayed by at least 2 months.
I accepted the trade-in value for my Mondeo, but in the meantime it has developed mechanical problems.
Should I inform the main dealer or just hand the Mondeo over when the Kia finally arrives, say nothing and hope they dont notice the black smoke and noisy engine, or are they legally obliged to accept my vehicle as the Mondeo was ok at time of agreement, and the delay is Kia's fault.
Thanks in advance for any advice as i am in a quandary on what to do.

Fair point, GB - but in reality, surely the dealer is going to 'trade out' the PX car ASAP (unless it's a newish example of the make sold by the dealer, which this clearly isn't).

When I picked up my first Skoda, its Golf predecessor was going out that same morning. It was less than three years old and had no known problems, but my impression was that the buyer would take it as seen.
