It has nearly 90000 on the clock and hasn't really been too much trouble over the years. Apart from a steering rack and a starter motor. More recently the turbo went 'pop' which after the repair we thought would mean that we'd be OK again for a few more thousand miles.

But on a local journey yesterday it started juddering and I noticed that the temperature needle was up to the 3/4 mark. I pulled over immediately, lifted the bonnet to cool it down. The temperature seemed to go down pretty quickly so I started off again. But it happened again shortly after, so I stopped again etc. Basically I 'nursed' it to the nearest petrol station where I checked the coolant level which appeared to be low, so I topped it up. But it still needed to be nursed (stop/start) home.... Read more

hello can anyone help me please. I have just had a new sach dmf clutch kit fitted and since it has been done it has had a intermittent juddering at idle speed and when it is juddering there is a strange noise coming from gear box area and the way to stop it is by pressing the clutch or gently push it up to first gear without the clutch in or wait untill its been running a while and the juddering stops. I think it could be a faulty dmf but not sure. The noise dont sound like a typicle rattling dmf. And the car drives fine with plenty pull. Can you help me please. Any help would be appriciated. i have to agree with you about the flywheel and clutch, but my question to you is ..

why did you fit a new clutch and flywheel and was the symptoms you are experiencing there prior to the change, if so the fault could be the input shaft bearings on the gearbox.

Hi, sorry if i've posted this in the wrong place, but i'm new on here and really need some advice.

i've just bought a 97 reg, vectra 2.0 di ls. she starts first time, no engine knocks, absolutely no smoke,no oil leaks, shes a bit juddery some times when first moving off,but if she has a bit more throttle is fine, how ever when shes going up hill she seems to lose power , unless she has a fair run at it first, but then usually by the time i head for home she doesnt lose power any where near as much. has anyone any ideas what could be wrong? i've read some of the forums on the egr valve and her symptoms dont seem to match. i'm female so any comments in plain english would be appreciated!! cheers Read more

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can help.

I'm looking at purchasing a new car and was asked to get a final settlement figure on my current car/loan as it is classed as a Personal Loan (wasn't aware, thought it was a car finance part of Arnold Clark).

Where I'm really confused is the interest.

Amount borrowed was £12700.88, interest amount £2857.72. Taken over 60 months (so far made 42 payments).

I have 18 more payments (17 @ £259.30 and 1 @ £457.31 = £4865.41). I phoned up for a final payment figure and they quoted me £4676.25, a saving of only £189.16? However according to my paperwork it states if I wanted a final payment figure after 45 payments it is £293.69 per £1000 borrowed/£100 (12.7) borrowed therefore that would give me £3729.86 to settle, however in terms of 14 payments @ £259.30 and 1 final @ £457.31 that comes to £4087.51. Why would I save £357.65 interest, as opposed to paying earlier (3 months) yet only saving only half that amount?

I absolute hate interest with a passion as I never really understand how it works, but this just seems bizarre, unless I'm just not seeing something that is obvious.

Anyone?

Good evening, I am trying to get a diagram and or photo of the cambelt area (the belt itself and all the relevant pulleys in that area), the cambelt was changed 2 years ago, however there is a whirring sound coming from that side of the engine, it sounds like a bearing, but which one is the question.

I have looked on the net and as yet have'nt found anything useful.... Read more

I had one-it also made a nasty bearing-type noise, it was the bearing in the cambelt idler. I believe this 1.7 diesel motor was also fitted to Vauxhalls-somebody please confirm?

Haynes do a manual for this car including the diesel.

Following last winters high snowfall, and the independent meterologists who are predicting more of the same for this winter, I plan on switching the tyres on our Honda FR-V to a winter compound next month.

We live on small close which is reached via a mildly inclined road, but that was enough to defeat the car during the worst of winter 2010/2011. The need for better traction is higher this year, with increased school run activity, and an elderly relative who needs regular assitance. ... Read more

I'm ready to fit my winter tyres, got a spare set of 2nd alloys. I'm doing this all on a tight budget, so so I need 5 rather than 4, (I have a spare tyre) as if I had a space saver tyre and should I get a flat I'm sure I'd not not have the option of a winter tyre? BC

You need a spare which can go on either side of the car. Most snow tyres have a directional tread pattern and when fitted to a wheel can only go on the side in which they will rotate in the correct direction. Never use a directional tyre on the wrong side! The tread pattern when rotating correctly will push water out and away from the tyre, but rotating the wrong way 'round, water will be pushed to the centre of the tread, causing the tyre to aquaplane (with possible fatal consequences!).
