Hi,
I am have put a deposit on a 56/07 Astra TwinTop with a 1.8i VVT engine. To be safe I had it insepcted by an engineer last week and a tapping noise was flagged up from the engine. The report stated:... Read more

"People often assume the smaller the engine the less fuel it will use, thats never strictly been the case. In my view you want at least a 1.6 for that sort of work"
Well we have a 1.6tdci Fiesta, great car but cant beat the C1 for economey, especially at higher speeds on the motorway. The fiesta is good though and close....
Hi All, haven't really nailed this yet but I reckon my 10 plate 407 HDi SW occasionally slips the clutch when I change gear. Just occasionally, seems to happen when going from 2nd to 3rd, I notice the engine revs just go high for a second when i take my foot off the clutch before settling down. I cannot recreate so can't be sure and its gone before I really pay attention, neither can I force the clutch to slip by applying the power from low revs.
Anyone any idea what might be going on please.... Read more

Back in April, I was involved in a minor accident on a roundabout and the front wing of my car was scraped by the trailer of a goods vehicle who pulled out across me, and only avoided serious damage because I was able to safely stop in time. my damage was absolutely minimal, caused by the other person cutting across my car (after stopping then carrying on!) , and no damage to goods trailer, but the driver is claiming for whiplash! Ii had 2 hours on the scene of the incident with an investigator (ex traffic police) who concluded that i am not at fault and I am pleased to say that the insurance company are willing to go to court to contest this claim. Will the insurance company pursue the other driver for a fraudulent claim? What next? Read more
Hello justadriver, something similar happened to me a couple of years ago. HGV cutting the corner on a roundabout. Months of lies and denials from the driver despite strong evidence to support me. Insurance company were useless but I have legal assistance and they were quite good, if slow. Eventually on the eve of a court summons being issued the other side gave in. B@stards! All that lying and wriggling over months and months, only to admit it in the end. Stick to your guns and go to court. County court is decided on the balance on probabilities so your evidence should prevail. Also get your legal rep to write to the other side and directly to the driver informing them that should they persist with a wrongful claim for personal injury and give evidence to that effect in any court then perjury will be committed, and perjury carries a potential jail term. That should galvanise their thinking. It is difficult to prove entirely that anyone is not injured, but I think an expert would expose him easily. On that basis would he take a chance and lie in court? What a risk. Good luck and stick it out. Let us know the outcome. Cheers Concrete.
I wanted to get the air/oil/fuel filters from my local dealer who is the only one for 70 miles, so having driven there, found out much to my disgust no air filters in stock, and this is a filter that filts multiple vauxhalls and chevrolets. Did not bother to get the other two as I already had an original oil filter and the fuel filter not necessary at this service, However having done 10000 miles since the last service went to the motor factors nearby who had one in stock, (ORDERED BY AND RETURNED FROM THE MAIN DEALER!)
So on top of not having the parts they would have got it from the factors (cheaper) and then invoiced me chevrolet prices!... Read more
Badge engineering their parts as well. How does this company still exist?
I have a 1998 bmw 316i coupe. Currently fitted with Falken tyres all round 205 60 R 15. All rated 91 V. Going to be shortly replacing the fronts with 2 part worn winter tyres. Same size except one is michelin (H rating) and the other a budget tyre (T rating). My car manual seems to say that H and T ratings for winter tyres are ok. I cant find anything online to say that fitting these tyres would be illegal...just need some input... Read more
Both H and T rated tyres are good for over 100mph, you wouldnt be doing those kinds of speeds (especially in winter) so the car is perfectly safe. Check your insurance before you get them done mind as some insurance firms are picky and will invalidate the insurance if lower speed rated tyres are used.
SPEED LIMIT ON MOTORWAYS TO RISE TO 80MPH
The speed limit on motorways will rise to 80mph, it will be announced tomorrow.... Read more
I agree its pretty pointless, feeble and arguments in favour of it economically dont stack up. The biggest point is people drive at 80 anyway, it'd be nothing more than an acknowledgment of reality rather than any economy boosting measure. If it was me i'd just leave it as it is but that doesnt stop me being outraged by alot of the babble and frankly fabricated nonsense which has been wrung through the media recently in argument against it.
Brake claiming it'll result in more carnage, despite motorways having an excellent safety record. British motorways see more vehicle mile driven on them per year than anywhere else in Europe, they are also the most dense and congested yet come bottom of the fatalities chart at the same time. Pseudo science like 'a 1mph reduction would prevent 5% of accidents' can easily be debunked as nothing more than weak correlation from a 17 year old study of basic, limited data in which the data fields cant be compared to each other, let alone anything else....
