Hi,

Over the weekend I tried to change the rear brake pads on my wife's 1007. On the right side the piston just would not go back in. It turns clockwise but does not retract (it will not turn anticlock)... Read more

Just wondered if there was a best time of year to buy vehicles.

I would never dream of trying to sell a motorbike in winter for example!... Read more

I am in the worst position of being PAYE and not entitled to any tax relief, and not getting any fuel vehicle allowance from my employer.

So a stripped out MPV would work just fine until I can go self-employed.

My understanding is that there are three different tibbe transponders - red, light blue, and dark blue. You have the red one, obviously. Any post 96 Fiesta Mk4 or Mk5, or Mk2 Mondeo two-button remote will work. Focus will not, though - it's light blue. The next issue is, whether you can use the three button remote. If yours has the electric boot opener on it , ie it's a Ghia or has the electric opening button on the centre console, (I think V-reg onwards cars the boot remote opening button on the centre console was deleted and the three button remote introduced - then remote central locking box permitting, the 3 button remote will automatically be fully functional once it's mated to the car.

Part numbers you need, I believe are: 2-button 97BG15K601AA 3-button 98AC15K601AC, although typically, most combinations of last two letters should be fine. You've got the process for using the first two keys to get get the ecu to accept the third key. However, once this is done, you'll also need to flick the ignition on and off and on five times in six seconds until it goes into program mode - usually a beep and the immobiliser indicator light comes on. You then need to press the unlock button and possible the lock button, which should then program the remote in. Good luck!

Please help !! it's been 3 wks now, car was fine then one morning went to open car with remote & nothing, changed battery, re-programed remote fob, still nothing, on unlocking car manually found boot won't open, everything else opens except boot which should open manually when you unlock.

Had to go in through backseat to open boot, checked boot wiring, fuses, all ok. Took it to my garage, they checked boot wiring, wire housing on the left for breaks/cuts nothing. They took out the inside boot lock swich not the outside button & tested, test concluded that the swich was faulty because the power was insufficiant for the switch to release/open the boot or something like that !!, anyway bought new boot lock, £40.00 fitted, still no joy.

Garage say it must be central locking, need to go to Peugeot or get electrician to check all the wiring, £50.00 an hour, open ended.

Please help, remote wont work, boot still won't open, driving me mad !!!! Read more

I agree that if you are towing big trailers 4wd (with suitable tyres) is hard to beat. This is even more the case if you need to head away from proper surfaced roads. Subarus are fantastic cars but my experience is that SUVs tend to be better suited to heavy towing. Horses are heavy towing and pound for pound in my experience is that Nissan Terranos are cheap, strong and capable of huge mileages (in 2.7 diesel form). You'll get 25-30mpg with a 2.7 diesel and it's your choice between long wheel base (5 door) for a better tow car but also quite a large car or short wheel base (3 door) which is a bit choppy when towing but which may suit you more overall taking account for it's non towing duties.

Land Rovers are much cooler (disco and county) but as you've got horses you won't have enough time left to keep on top of LR niggles....

With some people there seems to be the perception that motorcycles are very dangerous, but bicycles aren't. The statistics even seem to suggest that this is true, but it doesn't make much sense to me. I'm considering two wheels for commuting and I percieve a scooter as being safer than a bicycle.

A bicycle tends to be smaller, which makes it harder to see. They are also usually quieter, which makes them hard to hear. They can rarely keep up with traffic which means that other drivers will overtake them and often give them minimal space. Motorcyclists can also have much better safety equipment.... Read more

I honestly feel more in danger riding a push bike on the road in England, to me it feels like I am being a nuisance and that I'm pretty much invisible. It also feels like the people in the cars behind me just want to get past and will do so even when its not safe and come inches for me and you cannot ride in a commanding position on the centre of the road like you can on a motorcycle also you are a much smaller object to a driver. The amount of cyclists I see on the road that have no clue how to ride a bike is crazy they weave when they go in a straight line and are b***** unpredictable (I have also seen bicycles on A roads which is surprisingly legal yet dangerous as f*** since its a 70mph road and you are doing at best 20mph) . Now onto motorcycles you have the use of larger lights a better horn and the main part is you are a bigger projectile but there is speed involved and crashing at 30 into the side of a car (how most motorcycle crashes involving cars happen) is a very dangerous scenario but you are most probably wearing some gear in comparison to a lot of cyclists who do not wear any form of protection. Overall form personal experience a motorcycle can keep up with the flow of traffic and not have hundreds of cars overtaking it (increasing the risk of an accident) motorcyclists are more likely to wear protection, motorcycles have larger road presence. However they are both relatively safe if done properly and you dont put yourself in stupid situations.

Anyone experienced any auto gearbox problems? Also I have been quoted £6500 - 7000 to have the gearbox replaced by Honda. Waiting to hear whether they will offer any goodwill. Thanks for any info. Nick Read more

Looking to change the tyres soon and was wondering whether anyone had any advice. The car is 90% on road 10% off road. Ideally I would like to get a tyre that works both in summer and winter and off-road (if one exists). If one doesn't then it wouldn't be too much of a problem to store the current summer tyres and put on winter/off road ones.
