in the last few days the car has been making a ticking noise from the engine when idle and increases,in noise and frequency, when the car is moving, i've also noticed that it has begun to stutter when it is cruising at a resonable speed for a while, anyone got any ideas? Read more

4th time in 2 years that there has been a probplem with the keyless start, and more recently. totally discharged battery overnight. This is the second time in a month that it's happened. AA said there is a software fault somewhere , and to take the vehicle to Ford, but Ford say that they need to see the vehicle in its broken state to ascertain the problem...

  • Anyone else had this happen?? (BTW the lights etc are left to auto so "should" not drain )

I have a 2litre Mondeo and it has started to use excessive amounts of oil e.g. 2 litres in a 76 mile journey. There is no evidence of leaks as the house drive is clean without oil stains and I am not getting black smoke out of the exhaust pipe. Any ideas? Read more

'2 litres in a 76 mile' would belch out white smoke. Is this a diesel engine or petrol. Regards Peter

i have a srange oil leak from the top of the rocker cover i have taken a picture of it but cant upload it to show you

can anyone advise why it is leaking... Read more

tipster

got the same problem on my 99 3ltr elite, had the rocker gaskets done, but still got oil leaking into spark plug holes, then down onto manifold, causing smoke to come out of the bonnet, ive been told, because the rocker covers are plastic, they warp when hot, and i need to change the actual rocker covers, not sure though the car is doing my head in, a ex police car fully chipped, the works, and i cant enjoy it, due to oil leak

I am going to get four wheel alignment done as toe in adjustment has not solved the problem of drifting over to the left. I'm fairly sure everything is good at the front end as it's recently passed its MOT.

What I want to know is as a matter of interest and which puzzles me, is how do they adjust the rear wheels? Read more

pullgees

Hey you have all been very helpful. I'll take those measurements and see. I shouldn't swop the front wheels as the tyres are directional although I did try that and the drifting was less. The rear tyres are wearing evenly.

Using a string line stretched between the two nearside wheels and using the centre of the wheels as reference points so that the string is an equal distance from both hubs I measured a 5mm toe in on the rear wheel. Seems a lot to me.

If the ECU and/or activation motors fail on the above model is it likely to be a sudden or instant occurrence or does it take place over a period of time?

If it does take place over a period of time can someone advise what the symptoms of the impending failure would be? Read more

injection doc

Failure would most likley be instant with an ECU, rarley do they suffer with an impending fault. Mostly a driver will suddenly fail/burn-out or suffer with a dry joint.

Solonoids/activation motors unless sticking ( if inside an autobox) normally just suddenly fail....

I have lost my paper licence and need to apply for a replacement, presumably a photocard. How do i do this if i now live abroad? Read more

You can do it online, but need to get it sent to a UK address, not sure, but I think the address it is sent to will be shown as your address on the new licence, it was on mine.

Is there anything to be recommended in using used veg oil in a diesel engine? Some say it works just like diesel but I'm not keen to experiment then have to replace my minibus!

Even if it does work, what about emissions? Do they stay safe and within legal limits or will the smell of fried fish get VOSA to list you as an environmental hazard?!... Read more

I notice the price of new veg oil in the supermarkets seems to rise* with the price of diesel, so unless you are collecting old stuff and cleaning it up there doesn't seem to be any £££ gain?

*Whilst it makes frying a few chips more expensive I approve of supermarkets selling at a similar price to diesel inasmuch as the car park is not littered with discarded veg oil bottles.

It's a 2001 diesel voyager. Car needs a new steering rack, plus tax & MOT, so decided to have it off the road Nov & Dec.

Battery went dead, so charged it up, and an alarm (not the normal one) kept going off, so had to disconnect battery.... Read more
