When driving my car I'm not able to accelerate as I used to. I can put my foot right to the floor and it doesn't go any faster. Going up hills is a very slow process!
We contacted our usual mechanic and they said it sounded like the turbo had gone on the vehicle and that they wouldn't be able to do anything. We don't really want to take it to a main dealer as it's obviously not worth a great deal and don't want to pay more than it's value repairing it!... Read more
The vacum pipes to the turbo must be checked & live data on the MAF needs to be read as these are quite problomatic
Can anyone assist? My 96 1.9L 405TD has recently developed a fuel delivery problem, the car suffers from fuel starvation when going uphill, it ticks over ok (once I get it started) and it revs up ok, but if I jack the front of the car up, it cuts out.
There are no apparent leaks and I’ve run the engine straight from a can under the bonnet thus bypassing the primer in case of air leaks. ... Read more
It is a Bosch pump, there is a diaphragm on the top of it, could that have gone?

Hello Backroomers and Happy New year to you all!!
I have had to cut the wires leading to the ignition switch. Is it aceptable to add somemore cable here and solder it so that it becomes longer, or can this produce new problems at all? Can anyone give me some advice please.... Read more
Can't see any problems here as long as you use similar diameter cables with a neat solder joint.Good idea to stagger the joints so that they are not all bunched up together in the same place.hth
If you post a link to a specific vehicle from the aforementioned website, it is likely you will see your postcode in amongst the address.
I'd suggest if you are running a search to give as an example use a very bogus postcode unless you want the Universe to know where you stay to within a couple of hundred yards.... Read more
That's if you use your postcode or use an old one.

Ayup, I have just removed my 2001 306 Lucas diesel fuel pump. Now 'all' the brave souls who have done this so easy (what a pig it was to get off) talk about leaving or putting in two bolts to lock the fuel pump sprocket to assist refitting. Well I'm begiggered by this coz when I take off the pump away comes the sprocket attached to the pump flange. OK I take away the centre nut and there we are one pump at one end of the bench and the sprocket at the other end of bench - leaving behind the key and widget on the pump shaft. I'm now hunting a new pump BUT how will I know the replacement pump is in the right position - does the keyway define the pump 'timing'? Surely it'll have been turned ?
