Is it worth putting winter tyres on just the driven wheels, in my case the rear? Or would the difference in grip between front and rear in poor conditions just make matters even worse?
Thanks.... Read more
The Anglia had skinny tyres which gave better grip in snow than their fatter successors. I've had FWD cars since 1971 and have found them all very sure-footed in snow and ice until my last and current cars, Skoda Octavia vRSs with 225/40/18 tyres which are hopeless in snow.
Just this week I've had fitted 16" steel wheels with Kléber all-weather tyres, which I'll keep on till March and then alternbate with the originals. Let's hope for the best if we get that white rubbish again this winter.
Hi all
I have a Honda Jazz and the radio / CD unit has stopped working. No power at all to the unit. I cant see a fuse for the radio in the fuse box.
I have read on the net about a "backup" radio fuse on Honda's. Does anyone know anything about this or have any suggestions as to what to check next
thanks in advance Read more
The radio fuse is inside the car under the steeing wheel, just pull the flap and read the flap,
its got the location of the fuse and I belive its no.17 and fuse rating of 7.5. Its difficult to pull with your fingures. Look for the fuse puller or use small pliers. If your unit is not functional I am sure, and I suppose you will agree, its 100% fuse blown.Best of luck and any problems email me I will be happy to help.
First a little background.
We have a 2003/03 Bora Tdi PD 130 Sport. It is a rare spec car with a 5 speed "tiptronic" auto gearbox ( it's an awful box if i'm honest ), factory parking sensors and factory xenon headlights.... Read more
Have a very careful look at all of the air hose connections (large bore) carrying boost from the compressor to the intercooler and manifold. You may well find that a coupling has popped off or a hose has split.
The coupling design is not too bright - the retaining barbs secured by the large clips are made from soft aluminium and they eventually fret to death, allowing the coupling to blow apart. New hoses are not particularly cheap - but a lot cheaper than turbochargers....

For a higher driving position you could think about a VW Golf Plus, Nissan Note or Ford C-Max (there should be good deals on current shape C-Maxes as a new model is about to come out.
I have bought a 130PD Passat Highline 05 plate 70K miles FSH on variable interval-always had longlife oil according to the book and bills. This is my first diesel, and although it seems to go OK I feel that it is running a bit rough. There is a slight vibration (like a slight tingle) through the steering wheel at pretty much all revs and it feels rough acceleration through the gears, worse at low revs (<2K) and hard acceleration but then settles down when crusing at motorway speeds. | feels rough again when slowing down unless I drop a few gears to keep the revs between 2-3K. Can anyone tell me if this is normal, how smooth should it be, would it be worth getting a diagnostic run ? Seemed OK on the test drive but now I have done a few hundred mixed miles not so sure. any advice from the many experts welcome

Having bought this car new in September 2010, I've experienced the characteristic smell of the clutch burning on several occasions, usually when reversing up a slope or when skidding on ice. It appears I'm not alone amongst Hyundai owners, and I'm in the process of returning the car to the dealer for a full refund. However, it looks as though this clutch /DMF problem is widespread in modern diesels.
If I had selected an automatic version would I have still encountered this problem, or possibly another stack of issues please? ... Read more
Hi I bought a new Volvo xc60 in march 2010. Within 6 months and with less than 10,000 kms on the clock, my car went "up in smoke" one evening when I was sitting in rush hour traffic. The dealer advised that I was riding the clutch. I am in my late 30s and have had a full license for over 15 years. I have driven both manual and automatic cars in that timeframe and have never had any clutch related problems. Anyway, 4 months and a few solicitors letters later and I find myself having to take back the car because apparently DMF clutches are so sensitive that the slightest pressure on the pedal can cause the clutch to burn out. I just dont get it but apparently I don't hav a leg to stand on legally. So, the sooner I can trade this car the better! Just a pity the dealer didn't point out the sensitive clutch when I was committing to a 55,000 euro car!!!!!!
Hi,
I bought a Ford Focus 1.8 2004 zetec with the factory LPG conversion in March this year, which has worked fine until recenetly. About 3 weeks ago the LPG system stopped working for around 2-3 days (i.e. total power loss when the engine warmed up enought to automatically switch over to LPG). Then, just as suddenly as it stopped working, it started again and worked for a few days. It then stopped working nearly 2 weeks ago and has not worked at all since then, however I must add that i'm running the car on petrol at the moment, with no problems apart from the huge expense, doubling my fuel costs overnight!... I get +32mpg Brim to Brim on LPG from my Nissan Note 1.6 auto. The trip computer reckons I'm getting +40mpg but that thinks it's unleaded, So you can see the extra fuel used. However I think thats comparable with Diesel if the Diesel Note was an automatic...which they don't actually make!
My advice is shop around. Texaco today LPG 73.9 Diesel 1.35.9 ...

Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me with my poor mpg problem?
My mondeo st tdci seems to be drinking fuel at the minute i have serviced it changed the fuel filter cleaned all the carbon and gunk out of the egr valve, checked the handbrake cables arnt dragging but no joy. It was booked in for and economy remap today but before mapping adagnostic check unearthed 2 faults P0191 fuel rail pressure range/performance and p2288 injector control pressure to high. The garage inform me i need new injectors. My car runs like a dream with no signs of smoke or poor running.
Any help or advice would be greatly recieved as the £900 price tag santa cant cover at this short notice.
Thanx in advance

apparantly me changing the diesel filter has got a very good chance of putting on the fault codes so they have been erased and i have got to go back in a couple of weeks to see if there back on.
I have exactly the same problem! - Did you have to remove the heat shield or turbo to fix this? Where is this "Turbo Pressure Pipe"???
