Hello,
I have just received my new ix35 4wd. It was not the car I originally ordered but due to the waiting delays, i had the chance to have this car, so happily drove it home from the dealer on wednesday evening.... Read more
I have recently bought a Y reg ford KA from a local dealers. I paid for it in cash, and then picked up the documentation. Although I'd had a brief glance through it t the dealer's, upon getting home I had a closer look. I then noticed that at the last MOT (in March) there was an advisory note that "slight corrosion" had been spotted on both sills. Additionally, the advisory note also said that the rear axle suspension arm rubber bushes had deteriorated.
I am especially concerned about the rust, as I understand that the sills are structural members, although both problems could be costly to fix ( I believe around £240 for the corrosion and £160 for the bushes). I believe that the problems should have been pointed out before I had bought the car, as they are not minor faults.... Read more
easy ! book the car in for an mot, pick the car up and take it straight for its test !. the dealer is legally obliged to make sure the car is roadworthy, if it fails an mot then it is not ! then inform trading standards. who will take action against him and hopefully he will not do this to anyone else. he will also wish he had been more helpfull !!!
Thanks chaps, that's great, think I'll take the fuse out as i was thinking it may also un-lock at random!
Cheers...
Whilst driving along the motorway yesterday the Exhaust Emission Warning Light (looks like an engine glowing orange in the middle of the speedo display) came on.
In a bit of a panic when any warning light comes on I stopped and checked the owners manual(page 86 & 147), which says:-
Control indicator
for exhaust
Illuminates when the ignition is switched on
and during the start attempt. Goes off
shortly after the engine starts running.
If it illuminates while the engine is running,
it indicates a fault in the emission control
system. The permitted exhaust values may
be exceeded. Seek the immediate
assistance of a w ork shop.
Obviously this is impossible while on a motorway, but how urgent does this need to be looked at by a garage.
I need the car everyday leading upto Christmas so what am I suppose to do?
Just how bad is it to drive with this warning light on?
I did the pedal test and it came up with two fault codes 0115 and 571 (I tried it a few times as the flashing is pretty quick) the first one according to the fault code posting on the sticky refers to the Engine Coolant temperature, which I am pretty certain refers to the fact that my thermostat is not working correctly. But I cannot find any reference to the other code.
The car seems to be running smoothly in fact I think my petrol consumption has improved since the fault light came on.
Any ideas please

I have had the same problem. My car is a 59 plate, only bought in November, so less than 2 months ago. My car is going into dealer's service dept tomorrow for them to have a look at it, but have been warned it might need to be sent back to Vauxhall! My car is used to take my disabled husband out & about, so I need it!
From start up and moving off the ABS system kicks in then after about a minute it goes off and the light appears on the dash, normal braking but no ABS, changed the front two wheel sensors but no difference.Car has done 160,000 so i'm guessing now it's a more serious problem, i don't think it's the pump but in the book it shows ECU attached to side of the pump so i was wondering if anyone else has have a similar problem with either the Rover 75 or cars with similar ABS systems at can point me in the right direction, would a plug in at the garage indicate with a fault code what the failure is?
All help gratefully received... Read more
"the wiring loom to the ECU module tend to fill with water in where it runs in the n/s chassis leg & the water rots the loom & the ECU terminals. "
This area is the most common area for ABS faults, check under the battery. Do not pull the wiring loom around untill you are ready to check it thourghly because if its rotten when you touch it , it may fragment!...
Dear all,
Display started showing CHECK INJECTION fault at the weekend then started to struggle with ignition when cold. Fine when warm starting and also drives fine.... Read more

Hi all,
We are looking at buying a car from a car dealer that currently doesn't have an MOT or tax. MOT ran out whilst sitting on the forecourt in October. We are really interested in the vehicle and after a successful test drive there's a 95% chance we'd buy but as I understand it without an MOT this isn't legal. Is this correct? If he were to say that it is ok and we get pulled over would he be liable or us (As the driver)?
The dealer has said that he will put a new MOT on the car after a sale but that isn't really a help, plus any work that would need doing, should it fail, would surely then be down to us after signing the log book.
Personally, I don't know why they wouldn't just test the car as it would surely make it easier to sell?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You can check the MOT history with the registration number, the current MOT (or fail certificate) and V5 reference number:
I bought a 9 month-old Modeo Zetec in July and been very pleased with it.
One marginal reason for getting it was the Ford heated screen. I had no reason to use it until a few weeks ago , and then found it was clearing only one side ( passenger). So I took it to my local Ford dealer and requested a fix under warranty. They diagnosed a blown fuse, which is not covered, and I had to pay £33.... Read more
Good shout videodoctor.... otherwise Astret, perhaps one day a toolbox will accidentally fall off a shelf in your garage and smash your windscreen and you will have to claim for a new one on your insurance :S
To the OP:...
With the second consecutive nasty winter upon us, I decided to follow our Euro cousins and sort out some winter tyres for my A4. First step to get some steel rims. A set on Ebay but the seller was dodgy in replies to enquiries, so following advice here, simply rang Audi.
15" steel rims in stock for £38 plus VAT. A bargain. Next the tyres. Looked at the reviews here then tried to find them. My local fitters "highly recommending" Vredestein quatrac 3s which they happened to have in stock but online reviews suggest this is an all season tyre rather than a specific low temperature (UK winter type) tyre. Dunlop SP3D and Conti Wintercontact TS830s near the top of the reviews.... Read more
7degrees is the recomended will not harm the tyres even if you use them in summer.
I assume they would just wear like crazy in warmer temps...
Hi, I have recently purchased a 2006 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI at auction (hindsight is a wonderful thing) and now when I start it up there is a loud constant beep sound being omitted from the dash which lasts approx 5 seconds (the beep sounds similar to the kind of beep you would get if you left the lights on and opened the door on most cars) . This beep then omitts exactly every minute, this beep occurs when you have turned the key but not started the engine or with the engine running.
Also coincidently there is no sound when you have the lights turned on and open the door (just incase this bares any relevance, both main beam bulbs are out and I have changed the fuses, am hoping that it's just the bulbs!!)... Read more
Did u find out what problem was?
As stated in the previous post, put on your seatbelt before starting the engine.
Many thanks to all those that have replied, you hqve been very helpful.
BTW, I am very happy with the ix35 it drives very nicely and has been great in the snow so far. Just to clarify, in bad weather I do not intend to drive very fast, it was more a question "what if" I forget to press the lock button when I do accelerate & exceed the threshhold of 25mph....
