My parents passed away earlier this year and I planned to use part of my inheritance to buy a used Porsche 911 from the Porsche dealer. The business manager, asked me for a deposit of £2000 and he agreed that it would be made on the strict understanding that should funds not come through from the estate, the deposit would be fully refundable.
The estate still has not been sorted so in mid Sptember, it was agreed that the car would be sold by the dealer but since then, they have refused to return the deposit on the grounds that I broke the contract.
There would not have been a contract if the buisiness manager had not agreed to make the deposit fully refundable.
They have lied and cheated and have being completely dishonest in their dealings with me. What part does customer satisfaction play in this?

Please could you advise me what to do next.

Many thanks. Read more

Unless you have it in writing -- or you can reach agreement with them -- you won't recover it.

If you want me to try and negotiate something on your behalf on a "goodwill" basis from them please send me more details at lucy.bonhamcarter@autolaw.co.uk

Is it time to increase the penalty for driving without Insurance? 6 points and £200 is not much of a deterrent when, if someone gets away with it for a year they stand to be quids in given the high premiums charged for many individuals.

Points on a licence are no good if there is no license held. No license and no insurance often go hand in hand.... Read more

My method would keep the prison population down. Driving without insurance,MOT, Licence etc. would result in the removal of one finger. Re-offending would also become more difficult as each time another digit would be removed.

In my ideal world this penalty would also apply to burglars, car thieves, muggers, drug dealers, and all other such like scum.

Guys,
still looking for new car!!
Any views on longevity of these, I know the pipe+slipper image!
Pros seem to be that for same price as 100k+octavia, I can get a 50-70k model from the same year.
Minus is that its a much older car (introduced in 2001). But am looking to keep whatever I get for next 5 years. Read more

The majority of Octavia owners I have read about on this forum are happy with their cars. They are nice looking cars and very well put together.Turbo failure can happen on any car, people like injection doc have far more knowledge than me and can problaby tell you more about the turbo on a Octavia.Myself looking at both cars i would pick the Octavia.

Yes they came with a full size spare when first launched, though if i recall those on wide alloys might have had a slightly smaller full size(ish) steel spare instead.

Whip a wheel off and try it in the space to double check.

I have just bought this car as a stopgap. It is in virtually mint condition with full service history and only 52000 genuine miles on the clock!

The only thing that is wrong with it is the hatchback wont stay up. I have looked around but most of these cars disappeared in a pile of rust years ago. Does anyone have an idea where I might be able to get a pair of these, new or secondhand?... Read more
